Battle of the Bands (one for love, one for money)

Battle of the Bands (one for love, one for money)

Set up two battles of the bands:

    1.  Set up anywhere from 2-4 bands that you would love to see battle it out.  Or bands that you would have loveD to have seen back in their day.  It's okay to mix the former with the latter.

    2.  Set up anywhere from 2-4 bands that would bring you easy money.  Ticket sales would be sold out.  This is for the sole purpose of cashing in.

No restrictions.  Same bands?  These aren't regular concerts.  A winner will be chosen.  :)

    Who's it going to be?

I am guessing you mean bands of any era; broken up, dead, strung out, retired?

Why do I feel like a telemarketer has just put me on hold?

I didn't try this because there are so many combinations.

besides the obvious of a Beatles show for both love and money, I would have loved as a fan to see on the same bill:

    Stones
    Who
    Kinks

    Led Zep
    Deep Purple
    Queen

    T-Rex
    David Bowie
    Roxy Music

The big 4 of Thrash recently toured together in Europe:

    Metallica
    Megadeth
    Anthrax
    Pantera

    plus
    Exodus (I believe)

That had to be a monster show for Metal heads.

Thanks, JE.   These are battles of the bands, remember, not regular old tours.

Who would be a decent match up for the Beatles, BTW?   If you were going to pit them against another band, who would it be?   Just curious.  :)

Good question - I think many would say The Stones & Kinks for obvious reasons.

On a purely greedy side on my part, I would have given anything to see The Beatles share the bill with Bob Dylan. They took so much from each other although those influences which were taken are not easily heard. The Beatles learned from Dylan that you could put truly deep, thought out lyrics to music and Dylan learned that you could put real kick-a*s music to amazing thoughts & words.

And to put it bluntly, I would sh*t myself if Dylan and Lennon sat on stage together with acoustic guitars in hand. Sadly, that is an experience that I can only have when I close my eyes.

One last item. I would have loved to see Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix share the stage and guitar riffs. Now that would have been a battle.

    For love:
Aimee Mann / Liz Phair / Alanis Morissette

    For EASY money:

Barry Manilow vs. Neil Diamond  (that would be a "sell out" )   :D
    The Beatles vs. Oasis

I did it for the quick cash, not for love.   Greed is evil, isn't it?  JE will tell me that I just about killed him with that one.   :D

You're so money!  grrrrrrrrr yourself.  HA!

If there were ever a (theoretical) battle of the bands between Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes and Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul, I could die a happy man at that show. It could be like Dr. Zoom and the Sonic Boom . . .  just have everybody up on stage all at once (including Monopoly players). That would be totally awesome.

If it was money I was after, I'd put Springsteen up against U2 in the ultimate Deuschebag Olympics.
