I saw her leave the luau with the one who parked the cars...
This could easily turn into a Zevon thread. The man was amazing and I am proud to have known him.
I saw him live many times but my favorite story is from a performance in Portland, Maine circa 1990. He was playing what I think at the time was called The Great Northeast Music Hall, although the venue went through about a dozen or so names through the years (originally The Loft - home to the late, great Bill Chinnock). The show was very late. The sold-out crowd was waiting outside the locked doors, more and more impatiently as time passed. Finally, the doors opened and folks had about enough time to get themselves a drink or two when Warren came out with a blazing set. Between songs early in the set, he explained the delay: the new, neophyte owner of the the club read in the contract that the show was to be "solo acoustic," but neglected to read the staging requirements. "The hammerhead thought we didn't need a PA," explained Zevon, to audiences' amusement and delight. All was forgiven for the delay and it turned out to be a great show.
I urge anyone who wants to hear Zevon live with a full band to get a copy of Stand in The Fire, recently re-released on CD and digitally. "Get up and dance or I'll KILL ya!" There will never be another one like him.
I didn't have to come to Maui

Two, three, the count with nobody on,
He hit a high fly into the stand.
Roundin' third he was headed for home.
It was a brown-eyed, handsome man,
That won the game. It was a brown-eyed, handsome man.

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
Did they get you to trade
Your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
And cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange
A walk on part in the war,
For a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

All that you touch
All that you see
All that you taste
All you feel.
All that you love
All that you hate
All you distrust
All you save.
All that you give
All that you deal
All that you buy,
beg, borrow or steal.
All you create
All you destroy
All that you do
All that you say.
All that you eat
And everyone you meet
All that you slight
And everyone you fight.
All that is now
All that is gone
All that's to come
and everything under the sun is in tune
but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.

One of my sentimental favorite lyrics.
Moody Blues-Nights in white satinNights in white satin, never reaching the end,
Letters I've written, never meaning to send.
Beauty I'd always missed with these eyes before.
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore.
'Cos I love you, yes I love you, oh how I love you.
Gazing at people, some hand in hand,
Just what I'm going through they can't understand.
Some try to tell me, thoughts they cannot defend,
Just what you want to be, you will be in the end.
And I love you, yes I love you,
Oh how I love you, oh how I love you.
Nights in white satin, never reaching the end,
Letters I've written, never meaning to send.
Beauty I've always missed, with these eyes before.
Just what the truth is, I can't say anymore.
'Cos I love you, yes I love you,
Oh how I love you, oh how I love you.
'Cos I love you, yes I love you,
Oh how I love you, oh how I love you.
Breath deep
The gathering gloom
Watch lights fade
From every room
Bedsitter people
Look back and lament
Another day's useless
Energy spent
Impassioned lovers
Wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love
And has none
New mother picks up
And suckles her son
Senior citizens
Wish they were young
Cold hearted orb
That rules the night
Removes the colours
From our sight
Red is gray and
Yellow white
But we decide
Which is right
And
Which is an Illusion

I used to go to the gymn 6 days a week and workout to Def Leppard's Adrenalize album a lot. White Lightning seemed to get me pumped up more than any other song, especially this part:
You wanna leave but you can't let go
You wanna stop but you can't say no
(You never laugh about it, you just can't live without it)
You've had enough but you just want more
You never get what you're looking for
(You never laugh about it)
You've got both ends burning
Like a moth to a flame
You're going off the rails
Like a runaway train
It's a no-win situation
And there's no way out
And no one will ever hear you - Scream and shout
[Repeat Bridge]
Run - He's coming to claim you
Run - Nowhere to hide away
Run - You dance with danger
Run - Oh you gotta ride
The White Lightning - On a dead end street
White Lightning - Where the deadbeats meet
White Lightning - It's a one way ride
White Lightning - Oh, there's nowhere to hide -

The one that always gets me going 4 and great live.
Alright!
We are scanning the scene
in the city tonight
We're looking for you
to start up a fight
There's an evil feeling in our brains
But it's nothing new
you know it drives us insane
Running,
On our way
Hiding,
You will pay
Dying,
One thousand deaths
Running,
On our way
Hiding,
You will pay
Dying,
One thousand deaths
Searching,
Seek and Destroy
Searching,
Seek and Destroy!
Searching,
Seek and Destroy
Searching,
Seek and Destroy
There is no escape
and that's for sure
This is the end we won't take any more
Say goodbye to the world you live in
You've always been BITCHING
but now you're KILLING
Running,
On our way
Hiding,
You will pay
Dying,
One thousand deaths
Running,
On our way
Hiding,
You will pay
Dying,
One thousand deaths
Searching,
Seek and Destroy
Searching,
Seek and Destroy!
Searching,
Seek and Destroy
Searching,
Seek and Destroy!!
Our brains are on fire
with the feeling to kill
And it won't go away
'til our dreams are fulfilled
There is only one thing on our minds
Don’t try running away
`cause you’re the one we will find
Running,
On our way
Hiding,
You will pay
Dying,
One thousand deaths
Running,
On our way
Hiding,
You will pay
Dying,
One thousand deaths
Searching,
Seek and Destroy
Searching,
Seek and Destroy!
Searching,
Seek and Destroy
Searching,
Seek and Destroy
Ahahahaha!

Always liked this one from ELP, especially the live version, Lake at his very best.
Do you wanna be an angel
Do you wanna be a star
Do you wanna play some magic
On my guitar
Do you wanna be a poet
Do you wanna be my string
You could be anything
Do you wanna be the lover of another undercover
You could even be the
Man on the moon
Do you wanna be the player
Do you wanna be the string
Let me tell you something
It just don't mean a thing
You see it really doesn't matter
When you're buried in disguise
By the dark glass on your eyes
Though your flesh has crystallised
Still...you turn me on
Do you wanna be the pillow
Where I lay my head
Do you wanna be the feathers
Lying on my bed
Do you wanna be the cover
Of a magazine
Create a scene
Every day a little sadder
A little madder
Someone get me a ladder
Do you wanna be the singer
Do you wanna be the song
Let me tell you something
You just couldn't be more wrong
You see I really have to tell you
That it all gets so intense
From my experience
It just doesn't seem to make sense
Still...you turn me on -

Ok, here goes for classical, my favorite song is Ave Maria, sung by Luciano Pavorotti. In Latin.
So I won't post the lyrics for that one.
hahah!! really, it's gorgeous.
Also, Girlfriend in a Coma .... twisted, these lyrics have had lots of interpretation, I've always been drawn to this song.
Girlfriend in a coma, I know
I know - it's serious
Girlfriend in a coma, I know
I know - it's really serious
There were times when I could
Have "murdered" her
(But you know, I would hate
Anything to happen to her)
NO, I DON'T WANT TO SEE HER
Do you really think
She'll pull through ?
Do you really think
She'll pull through ?
Pull through ...
Girlfriend in a coma, I know
I know - it's serious
My, my, my, my, my, my baby, goodbye
There were times when I could
Have "strangled" her
(But you know, I would hate
Anything to happen to her)
WOULD YOU PLEASE
LET ME SEE HER !
Do you really think
She'll pull through ?
Do you really think
She'll pull through ?
Pull Through ...
As I whisper my last goodbyes
I know - IT'S SERIOUS ... -

Great song and great words...on a humorous note, I always thought as a lyricist, there was nobody who was more of a rhyme-aholic than Greg Lake. Sadder... madder...ladder. -

Very true, Lucky Man is the same way. And both songs have references to feathers and a pillow or a mattress.
