In Response to Re: If there was a musician or singer who didn't die prematurely....:Elvis Presley and Jim Morrison. Elvis was one of music's ultimate singers and entertainers. Morrison was an extremely creative songwriter and was a very good baritone 2 lead singer as well. Who knows what we may have missed by their lives passing too soon?

elvis died twice.
imo, musically he died in 1960.
his true rock 'n' roll significance was in the '50's.
his las vegas era saw him change from a rock and roll singer into a lounge act.
sad but true. -

It's hard to deny any of the entries or reasoning here.
My obvious would be Jimi Hendrix because I don't think he ever really touched the surface of his creative peak as an artist...and that's saying alot because he had a pretty diverse catalogue already.
Frank Zappa is another one who would've continued to create incredible music for a long time. RIP FZ
Shannon Hoon, arguably one of the best lyricists of his generation and was just getting started. He had so much to say and an extremely unique way of saying it and unfortuately didn't have enough time to say it all.
We could've gotten a lot more out of Jaco Pastorius, Brad Nowell and Hillel Slovak too. -

Bob Marley.
He would be 65 today or whatever, and he'd sound as good today singng those songs as he did back then. Plus, you get the feeling he was just starting to scratch the surface. -

, the more I am convinced that Jimi would have collaborated with the members of ELP

Oh hell yea!
When Jimi asked Chicago to open for him, they were rather in awe, and said, "why us"?
Hendrix - "Because your horn section sings with one voice, and your gutiar player is better than me!" - Terry Kath.
Now THATS some high a55 praise! -

I would've liked to see what direction the Allman Brothers went in if Duane had lived. Sure they're still going strong, and Derek Trucks does hint at what might've been. But basically they found a sound early, and stayed with it. I'm not so sure Duane would have left it at that. -

Nick Drake - phenomenal artist/songwriter...if he had ever found the right backing band, he would have been unstoppable.
In the same vein, Tim Buckley...
...and a thousand times: Duane Allman -
