Make an album with title tracks only ...

This doesn't have to be a concise number of minutes to equal an album, but let's just say you should have at least 8 tracks.

Should have a theme.  Could be by era, or even by artist, if you know 8 albums of one artist well enough to list all of the first tracks, go for it.  "First track greatest hits" or some such thing.

Should know all of this from your own memory, not having to check.   If you *have* to check one, that will pass muster, but this is supposed to impress everyone, and you can't be a music snob if you have to look any of them up.  :)  (kidding, kidding)

    Got it?

NOTE: I expect Hfx can name 8 first tracks of DP albums, and Newman to know REM and U2 first tracks, with neither of you even breaking a sweat.  =)  I could name a few others, but I'll leave it at that.  Now to see if I can do this myself.   =)

    "Darling, he's still dangerous."

OK. I did more than 8 because there are a couple I am pretty sure are right, but still could be wrong. I'll then go back and check and strike out the ones I got right, and see if I got 8.

This is what I frequently refer to as one of my favorite errors that saw G n' R's redemption of hard rock and the rise of Grunge and heavier rock that borders on metal (ie, AIC and Tool).

About a girl (Bleach - Nirvana)

Welcome to the Jungle (G n' R - Appetite for destruction)

Right next door to hell (G n' R - Use your illusion I)

Civil War (G n' R - Use your illusion II)

Cold and Ugly (Tool - Opiate <aka, demo album>).

We Die Young (Alice in Chains - Facelift)

Bleed the Freak (Alice in Chains - Live!)

Scentless Apprentice (Nirvana - In Utero)

    Stinkfist (Tool - Aenema)

    Once (Pearl Jam - Ten)

Nutshell (Alice in Chains - Unplugged)

About a girl (Nirvana - Unplugged)

    Stain (Nirvana - Incesticide)

Of course...I can't call myself a music snob because the reason I know these is that (a) I listened to a narrower range of music than most here, especially earlier in life, and (b) at least half the time, I listen to albums straight through.

Begin the Begin (Life's Rich Pageant)

    What's the Frequency Kenneth? (Monster)

    Radio Song (Out of Time)

    Radio Free Europe (Murmur)

BTW Newman, your U2 album assignments are correct.

Since I'm on summer holidays I'm going to be lazy. I will go with songs from musicians who all played for the Jeff Beck group and later gained prominence elsewhere. I think all of these members are in the R&R HOF:

    • Beck's Bolero - Jeff Beck Group (Jeff Beck)
    • Da Ya Think I'm Sexy - Rod Stewart (Rod Stewart)
    • You're In my Heart - Rod Stewart (Rod Stewart)
    • The Pain Of Love - The Rolling Stones (Ron Wood)
    • Down In The Hole - The Rolling Stones (Ron Wood)
    • Rock and a Hard Place - The Rolling Stones (Ron Wood)
    • When The Levee Breaks - Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page)
    • Tea For One - Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page)

There you have it. I'll think of another theme that actually involves some thought later.

I actually had trouble with this. And there should be other artists I could do it with but my memory is just not that good. I remember albums and songs on them but not always the sequence of the songs. I thought I could do ones for Nick Lowe, Graham Parker, Van Morrison, Joe Jackson, Richard Thompson, The Beatles, Bob Dylan; but they just won't come to me.

Hi Yoga. In real life I tend to assume a lot at times and a lot of my conversations involve back and forths to clarify things. What I meant in my post was that Jeff Beck, Rod Stewart, Ron Woods, and Jimmy Page all had a common link, they all belonged to the Jeff Beck Group (when they were much less famous). Later on they all gained much more fame with other bands ... Rod Stewart went solo, Ron Woods became a member of the Rolling Stones, and Jimmy Page became the driving force of Led Zeppelin. As such my album was tracks from very famous bands with members who previously were members of the Jeff Beck Group with their name in parenthesis.

I certainly was not able to make a CD *with a theme* myself, so who was I to make assumptions about you or anyone -- just based on past successes, I guess, since the reputations of the regulars here precede them, and therefore, I have confidence in everyone.  Nice to know, huh?
The only way I could have done this was to have called it "The oddball first tracks collection" based on my desperation .. ha ha.

I'll try one more CD thread ... with a slightly easier twist.  I am pretty sure I can do it myself, so that's a good pre-test.

DD, also:  I saw that Richard  Thompson has a new album out, called "Acoustic Classics", so if you would like to check it out, look on Amazon.  This is just a FYI, as I get a list from Newbury Comics every week, and I noticed this album a week or so ago.  Just wanted to pass along the info, since I know you are still checking the forum.  ;)

You may get a kick out of this re: Thompson and the album:

THANKS, Klaas.   That was a very clever premise for a CD.    Sorry if your explanation went over my head the first time,  but I had no idea those very well-known rockers were once linked in that way.
