March 11 , 1972....Harvest LP by Neil Young hits #1

The LP Harvest by Neil Young thrust him into the #1 position on the charts and made this man a household name. A reputation he soon turned his back on by releasing a series of albums that had zero appeal to the masses, but which quickly made him a legion of fans who adore honesty and truth above flashiness and chart success...these LPs include 'On The Beach', 'Time Fades Away', 'Tonight's The Night' and 'Zuma'....the latter includes the classic Neil Young song 'Cortez the Killer' ....one of his all time best.

    Other notable March 11 events:

2011 , an earthquake measuring 9.0 strikes 130 km east of Sendai , Japan triggering a massive tsunami.

1983, Pakistan sucessfully conducts a cold test of a nuclear weapon.

1941 , President Franklin Roosevelt signs the Lend-Lease act into law , allowing American built supplies to be shipped to the allies on loan.

1888, the great blizzard of 1988.

    1903 , Lawerence Welk born.

    1895, Shemp Howard born.

1986, Sonny Terry , Americam Blues musician, passes.

2006, Bernie "Boom-Boom" Geoffrion, NHL legend and the man who made the slapshot famous....( that's where the BOOM-BOOM came from) passes.

"Harvest" is a great album. I also like "After the Gold Rush" and "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere."

There's not really a bad album among the bunch, and a couple are bona fide homeruns.

Ditto Roy that "EKTIN" and "ATGR" also deserve high regard, as do "Comes A Time", Rust Never Sleeps" and "Live Rust".

In fact, very few artists can really match his level of production and quality in the 1970s, IMO.  The man is simply incapable of not making music...to our benefit and his credit.
