Re: My music friends - Analyze THIS

"In my younger days life was hard. I am making up for lost time by having some fun as an adult."

    Similar to Eric Burden's:

"My faith was so much stronger then, I believed in fellow man,and I WAS SO MUCH OLDER THEN....WHEN I WAS YOUNG."

It is a natural evolution from that other great philosophical musing on aging: "Hope I die before I get old".  This is further evidenced by the space-time inversion present within the first excerpt and the inverse chronology between the two excerpts.

    Byrds or Dylan?   :)

I was an old soul, taking life too seriously; my life and I were a drag, so I decided to embrace my lost youth, and found my inner boy-man-child.

He must have also paniced when he read that "youth is wasted on the young" realizing he had never had a youth (and knew he better lighten up before it was too late).  :D

I also like the time / space / chronology inversion interpretation.   :D

    Da Byrds!

    GREAT GROUP!

    Song: 'My back pages'
    Artist: The Byrds
    Composer: Bob Dylan (1964)
Album: 'The Byrds Greatest Hits' (1967)

'My back pages' is a lyrical masterpiece (with meanings for many).

    lyrics

Crimson flames tied through my years
    Flowing high and mighty trapped
    Countless fire and flaming road
    Using ideas as my map
We'll meet on edges soon, said I
    Proud 'neath heated brow
Ah, but I was so much older then
    I'm younger than that now

    Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth
Rip down all hate, I screamed
Lies that life is black and white
Spoke from my skull, I dreamed
    Romantic flanks of musketeers
    Foundationed deep, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then
    I'm younger than that now

In a soldier's stance I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teachFearing not I'd become thy enemy
In the instant that I preach
    Sisters fled by confusion boats
    Mutiny from stern to bow
Ah, but I was so much older then
    I'm younger than that now

Ah, but I was so much older then
    I'm younger than that now

My guard stood hard when abstract threats
    Too noble to neglect
    Deceived me into thinking
    I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
    Quite clear, no doubt, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then
    I'm younger than that now
