    My Song / Your Song

Here's my song.   Now send me a song about you.  :)

NB: Lyrics redacted (this song is very dark ...); these lyrics are not really my life story, but ... couldn't resist.  I like that it was written by a prog rocker, and BTW, I never heard of him before I saw this song (he's very interesting).

(On Tuesday She Used to Do) Yoga - Peter Hammill

On Tuesdays, she used to do yoga,
while I'd sit and watch the box
    in a vegetable way,
    but always ready to say
to myself that I was an artist,
    implying that she was not.

    ......

Now I'm tying myself up in contortions,
don't know if yoga will do me any good.
It's about time I tried, though I'd rather be inside
from the cold, studying tantra -
still, I never did that when I could.

Sometimes I'd play the wild rover,
sometimes I'd just get smashed all day...
on Tuesdays she used to do yoga,
    on Tuesday she went away.

    Godzilla- Blue Oyster Cult

With a purposeful grimace and a terrible sound, he pulls the spinning high-tension wires down...

Helpless people on a subway train scream for God as he looks in on them.

Oh, no!, they say he's got to go....go,go Godzilla.

Re: My Song / Your Song

They are not even close to being a favorite band but Poison did write and record a song which is as perfect as it can be. In fact, the title will be etched onto my tombstone.

Ain't Nothing But A Good Time

    Now Listen

Not a dime, I can't pay my rent
I can barely make it through the week
Saturday night I'd like to make my girl
But right now I can't make ends meet

I'm always workin' slavin' every day
Gotta get a break from the same old same old
I need a chance just to get away
If you could hear me think this is what I'd say

    Chorus:
Don't need nothin' but a good time
    How can I resist
Ain't lookin' for nothin' but a good time
And it don't get better than this

Say I spend my money on women and wine
But I couldn't tell you where I spent last night
I'm really sorry about the shape I'm in
I just like my fun every now and then

I'm always workin' slavin' every day
Gotta get a break from the same old same old
I need a chance just to get away
If you could hear me think this is what I'd say

    Chorus

You see I raise a toast to all of us
Who are breakin' our backs every day
If wantin' the good life is such a crime
    Lord, then put me away
    Here's to ya

Long haired Country Boy (Well,Short Haired Country Boy now)

    People say I'm no-good,
    And crazy as a loon.
I get stoned in the morning,
I get drunk in the afternoon.
Kinda like my old blue tick hound,
I like to lay around in the shade,
An', I ain't got no money,
But I damn sure got it made.

'Cos I ain't askin' nobody for nothin',
If I can't get it on my own.
If you don't like the way I'm livin',
You just leave this long-haired country boy alone.

Preacher man talkin' on the TV,
    He's a-puttin' down the rock 'n' roll.
He wants me to send a donation,'Cos he's worried about my soul.
He said: "Jesus walked on the water,"And I know that is true,
But sometimes I think that preacher man,
Would like to do a little walkin', too.

But I ain't askin' nobody for nothin',
If I can't get it on my own.
You don't like the way I'm livin',
You just leave this long-haired country boy alone.

A poor girl wants to marry, And a rich girl wants to flirt.
A rich man goes to college,And a poor man goes to work.
A drunkard wants another drink of wine,And a politician wants a vote.
I don't want much of nothin' at all,But I will take another toke.

'Cos I ain't askin' nobody for nothin',If I can't get it on my own.
If you don't like the way I'm livin',
You just leave this long-haired country boy alone.

So great.  All of them.   I love them all.  :D

Zilla, I guess we already knew what yours would be.  :P

Mine is probably the least accurate ... I mostly based it on the title (which I love, BTW).  How could I ignore a song with a title like that?  I couldn't (and there's some truth in everything, there always is).

Re: My Song / Your Song

I have a few (my recessional) but this works for now:

Neil Young - "After The Gold Rush"

Well, I dreamed I saw the knights in armor coming
    Saying something about a queen
There were peasants singing and drummers drumming
And the archer split the tree
There was a fanfare blowing to the sun
That was floating on the breeze
Look at mother nature on the run
    In the nineteen seventies
Look at mother nature on the run
    In the nineteen seventies

I was lying in a burned out basement
With the full moon in my eyes
    I was hoping for replacement
When the sun burst through the sky
There was a band playing in my head
And I felt like getting high
I was thinking about what a friend had said
I was hoping it was a lie
Thinking about what a friend had said
I was hoping it was a lie

Well, I dreamed I saw the silver spaceships flying
In the yellow haze of the sun
There were children crying and colors flying
    All around the chosen ones
All in a dream, all in a dream
    The loading had begun
    Flying mother nature's silver seed
To a new home in the sun
    Flying mother nature's silver seed
    To a new home

[QUOTE]Hey, I hear Your Song, I think Elton, and that diddy was my (our) wedding song. but for passion, I suggest this: (Lake/Sinfield - ELP. Works Volume 1 Lend your love to me tonight Don’t ask me who or what is right I have no strength I cannot fight Just flood my darkness with your light I need no face I need no name No martyr’s artificial shame No crucifix I am not lame And yet I ache to feel the flame Arrest the sun and shoot the moon The lamp of laughter dies too soon To live reflected in a spoon Makes it too hard to stay in tune Believe me Unlock the door and unbar the gate I’ll write I love you on the slate And while St. Peter’s thieves debate The price of time I will not wait Or let the star blind road of fate Confuse me Abuse me Misuse me Release my soul release my eyes A clock unwinds a flower dies Dishonesty disqualifies You win the race but lose the prize A tattered cloak behind the throne It is unseen it is not known Behind this face I am alone I would give everything I own To touch you... Just lend your love to me once more Don’t ask me what I came back for Just watch the moonlight cross the floor And as your blood begins to roar You’ll feel your senses spin and soar You will become my meteor Divine and universal wh0re Complete me

Re: My Song / Your Song

I thought about posting the lyrics to Van Morrison's High Summer, as that is the first song I thought of when I saw what the thread was about . . .  then I realized that I don't take myself anywhere near that seriously, so I'm posting this bit of fluff from old friend Steve Krikorian, which probably says more about who I might have been than who I actually turned out to be.

How come this country runs on retrospect?
How come nobody ever knows what to expect?
It should be easy to prevent and to protect.
Yes, they should have known about Rodney.

Too much rejection make a man turn mean.
Lack of attention it can ruin everything,
and that's not to mention random acts of cruelty.
See: they could have known about Rodney.

    (talk about Loretta)

Loretta Underwear she could be impressed.
She liked the biggest and the brightest and the best.
And she'd let a driver lay his head upon her breast,
but she should not have fooled around with Rodney

    Rodney had the Chevrolet,
    Had the engine,
    Had the paint,
Had the lead foot/that foot would speak and say:
Look at me! I'm alright! My name is Rodney.

Rodney he fall in love, he could not see,
That it was just the Chevrolet,
And he give that girl his ring.
So when she rode off in a thunderbird next thing,
Something break in the head of Fast Rodney.

He hit the highway at the speed of sound,
Lookin' for Loretta and this brand-new love she'd found,
    (and when he found 'em)
He rammed that T-Bird 'till the blood was on the ground.
Now the town would soon know about Rodney

One last time he drove to school,
Only this time it's too cool.
Right up the steps and through the doors he flew.
The police were now coming after rodney

He put that Chevy through the trophy wall,
Then rev it up and speed shift down that marble hall.
Straight through the men's room when the engine stalled.
That's when the law pumped the lead into Rodney

Rodney, he slumped down on the steering wheel.
Hold tight the gearshift as they ask him,
    “What's the deal here?”
And with his dying words the secret is revealed:
    Ihre eltern waren marsleute!

This all happened on the night Fast Rodney went crazy,
The night that Rodney ran amok
That's right, Fast Rodney went crazy,
And the dead and injured they just ran out of luck.

    Logical Song -- Supertramp

When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily,
    joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
    logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
    clinical, intellectual, cynical.

There are times when all the world's asleep,
    the questions run too deep
    for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
    I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
    liberal, fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
    acceptable, respecable, presentable, a vegtable!

At night, when all the world's asleep,
    the questions run so deep
    for such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
    I know it sounds absurd
but please tell me who I am.

I had to think a long time about this. Then I found a song that is very fitting from a group I have never listened to before. I don't have the lyrics for this so you'll have to watch the video of The Four Bitchin' Babes singing "The Introvert Song".

Well, it finally came to me what my song would be.  It's a Jimi Hendrix song about going through major mood swings.  I'm just going to change the words a bit to update the terminology.

Bipolar disorder is touching my soul
I know what I want but I just don't know
How to, go about gettin' it
    Feeling sweet feeling,
    Drops from my fingers, fingers
Bipolar disorder is catchin' my soul

Woman so weary, the sweet cause in vain
You make love, you break love
    It's all the same
When it's, when it's over, mama
    Music, sweet music
I wish I could caress, caress, caress
Bipolar disorder is a frustrating mess

Well, I think I'll go turn myself off,
    And go on down
    All the way down
Really ain't no use in me hanging around
    In your kinda scene

    Music, sweet music
I wish I could caress, caress, caress
Bipolar disorder is a frustrating mess

Well, thanks for returning to this thread after giving it a bit of thought.

I'm impressed with the input and have been a bit perturbed by my own contribution; I started the thread in a light-hearted way (how many songs have the word 'yoga' in the title?), but you all took the challenge and ran with it.

    To be continued ...

yoga, I think you should get a 'mulligan' on your song choice.  (Definition just in case...a mulligan is a golf term for getting a re-do on a bad shot...it's not in the rule book but it's often allowed in friendly games.)

Re: My Song / Your Song

I could post a few, but this one represents how I think and feel lately, and I listen to it often.

Hymn of the Big Wheel  - Massive Attack

The big wheel keeps on turning
On a simple line day by day
The earth spins on its axis
One man struggle while another relaxes

There's a hole in my soul like a cavity
Seems the world is out to gather just by gravity
The wheel keeps turning the sky's rearranging
Look my son the weather is changing

I'd like to feel that you could be free
Look up at the blue skies beneath a new tree
    Sometime again
You'll turn green and the sea turns red
My son I said the power of reflections over my head

The big wheel keeps on turning
On a simple line day by day
The earth spins on its axis
One man struggle while another relaxes

We sang about the sun and danced among the trees
And we listened to the whisper of the city on the breeze
Will you cry in the most in a lead-free zone
Down within the shadows where the factories drone
On the surface of the wheel they build another town
And so the green come tumbling down
Yes close your eyes and hold me tight
And I'll show you sunset sometime again

The big wheel keeps on turning
On a simple line day by day
The earth spins on its axis
One man struggle while another relaxes

As a child solemn pray my hope hides in disguise
While satellites and cameras watch from the skies
An acid drop of rain recycled from the sea
It washed away my shadow burnt a hole in me
And all the king's men cannot put it back again
But the ghetto sun will nurture life
And mend my soul sometime again

    [Repeat: x2]
The big wheel keeps on turning
On a simple line day by day
The earth spins on its axis
One man struggle while another relaxes.

    :)

Done.   And thanks for the term "mulligan"; I love to learn new words.  (I don't play golf, but do watch a golf tournament on occasion, as in watching Rory McIlroy, who obviously doesn't need a mulligan).
