Awfully lonely here.
While experiencing this lonely downtime, why don't we get it together to make a list of songs about lonliness and missing someone or someone(s) -- or whatever.
Some of the best rock songs / ballads are about misery and lonliness. Only the lonely know why I cry. :D
"Only the Lonely" -- Roy Orbison
"Missing You"" --- John Waite
NOTE: Typos will be ignored. :) -

Laura Nyro, Lonely Women
Not sure if this is a rock song/ballad.
And it's an old one, so if this is some kind of a contest or quiz/exam, disqualify me! -

Lonely Is The Night - Billy Squier
Oh, Lonesome Me; Bad Fog Of Loneliness - Neil Young (the latter of which was unreleased for 36 years until 2007)
Lonesome Cowboy Bill - Velvet Underground (Phish covers this well, too)
So Lonely - The Police

That Wait song should be dedicated to the old forum SW. BDC seems determined to kill the forums.
They don't even advertise the forums, so unless you've posted before and can go look at your own profile and click on a past post, how are you supposed to even find this site?
For those that still can find their way here it looks like they've decided to completely break the forum feature for an hour or more at least twice every day. That will eventually cause a few more users to give it up. I'm a creature of habit, a couple more weeks of this and I won't bother anymore myself. -

I think November Rain/Estranged/Coma strikes me as going a bit past loneliness, but definitely encompass it. And, are the G n' R version of a "ballad"...

I'll probably think of more but first and foremost:
Hank Williams - I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
Another country song by someon you wouldn't think would write country songs:
Tom Waits - It Looks Like I'm Up Sh!t Creek Again.
That one could become the new theme song for BDC. -

I thought this thread was a good idea, but you've come up with some gut wrenching songs. :P
Man, that Billy Bragg / Wilco song is nice.
"Somebody That I Used to Know" - Gotye
crickets. crickets. (don't want the crickets to be lonely, so I will leave two).

In response to MattyScornD's comment:Lonely Is The Night - Billy Squier
Billy Squier is a (MA) home boy? Just saw that he was born and raised here. It is rare that he is ever mentioned as a Boston / local music success story. Or perhaps it is I that never noticed his name on any lists, but I can't imagine that I could be *that* oblivious. :)
Is his name (often) missing when it comes to handing out local mentions, or am I just blanking? -

Gee, your batting average is pretty good as far as making me laugh. :)
Maybe I'll start a thread tomorrow for BDC theme songs, but a thread like that could get ugly. :P -

Another Elvis song:
Are You Lonesome Tonight
This is probably really aggravating my doing things this way. Guess I should make a list. Or I could just go away and leave you all alone. -
