Lonely Is The Night - Billy Squier
Billy Squier is a (MA) home boy? Just saw that he was born and raised here. It is rare that he is ever mentioned as a Boston / local music success story. Or perhaps it is I that never noticed his name on any lists, but I can't imagine that I could be *that* oblivious. :)
Is his name (often) missing when it comes to handing out local mentions, or am I just blanking?
Talk about "lonely"...!
Consider, if you will, the sad case of Billy Squier, who in a much simpler and more ignorant time, was virtually banished from the rock world due to an ill-considered, campy video (and no, not of the tommy-pamela lee varie-tay).
He is like one of those poor souls who spends decades on death row, only to be exonerated by evidence that fell behind the filing cabinet.
Billy really deserves his own thread...and yes, his relative status among boston's musical homies.
I figure the least we can do is a tribute album...or maybe his own reality show. -

Patsy Cline was really rather a babe, but almost always sang of lonliness, and ya just know she meant it (and yes, I know Willy wrote Crazy).
But is there anyone who harps on lonliness and isolation more that Roger Waters?
and quite well I might add!
Back in the late 70's/early 80's we figured out what made a bad trip. Rejection and it's subsequent lonliness. This led to the Clam Up, which was the bad trip about to happen, and I have rescued many a friend from that circular trap.
I remember Dan Akroyd doing (a GREAT) Jimmy Carter on a radio show taking calls. Dude calls up and says he's having a bad acid trip. The Jock says, uhm, not for this show with a President.
But Jimmy (Dan) says, No, I think I can help here. Take it easy, put on some music - some Allman Brothers, maybe some Greatful Dead - BUT NO PINK FLOYD!.
Dan knew.

People differ. Never understood how people get stuck in such a loop. Never did, despite many opportunities.
I suppose if one got arrested, it would be a bit of a 'bummer'.... then again, that's easy to avoid if you are good at keeping yourself together.

Tears for Fears - Mad World (later re-arranged brilliantly and performed by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews for the movie Donnie Darko)
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through meAnd I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cos I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World -

Awfully lonely here.
While experiencing this lonely downtime, why don't we get it together to make a list of songs about lonliness and missing someone or someone(s) -- or whatever.
Some of the best rock songs / ballads are about misery and lonliness. Only the lonely know why I cry. :D

Hey, thanks. What's nice is that quite a few people have come out of the woodwork, so maybe it's not as lonely as it was a few days ago. I hope that trend will persist. :) -

Sad Song, Hardy Hemphill
Can't isolate Sad Song on this page, but this is the only one I can find that plays the whole thing. The beginning is very soft, but stay tuned...the piano comes in at about 30 seconds.
