"My, my , hey, hey rock and roll is here to stay.

It's better to burn out than to fade away.

    My, my, hey, hey."

    -----------------------------------

    There's colors in the street

    Red, white and blue

    people shufflin' their feet

    people sleepin' in their shoes

there's a warning sign on the road ahead

theres' a lot of people sayin' we'd be better off dead

I don't feel like Satan , but I am to them

    -------------------------------------------------

    Tin soldiers and Nixon's comin'

    We're finally on our own

This summer I hear the drummin'

    4 dead in Ohio

[QUOTE]We did a HUGE thread of holiday songs last December (seriously, one of the best threads I have ever seen) where we included album covers along with youtube links, and "Fairytale of New York" was one of the first songs jkj posted in the thread.  I also posted it several pages later, as I'd forgotten it was already in the thread.  I love sad music, and you don't get more melancholy than that.  :D

He's such a goof, I think it's his favorite Christmas song...
Some songs are just so sad that I can't listen to them, like "And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" (another Pogues song).  I have to turn it off when it comes on.

    Words like violence
    break the silence
    come crashing in
    to my little world
    Painful to me
    pierce right through me
    can't you understand
    oh my little girl
~ Enjoy the Silence by Depache Mode

    Another turning point

A fork stuck in the road

Time grabs you by the wrist

    Directs you where to go

So make the best of this test

    And don't ask why

    It's not a question

But a lesson learned in time
~ Good Riddance by Green Day

    And finally...because I'm such a weirdo:

Tessie is the Royal Rooters rally cry
Tessie is the tune they always sung
Tessie echoed April through October nights
After serenading Stahl, Dinneen and Young
Tessie is a maiden with a sparkling eye
Tessie is a maiden with a love
She doesn't know the meaning of her sight
She's got a comment full of love
        ~Tessie by the Dropkick Murphys

Love that Green day song, Yoshimi.

I've seen those English dramas too
    They're cruel
So if there's any other way
    To spell the word
It's fine with me, with me "  - Vampire Weekend

How about something completely weird from my Crazy Canuck friends the Odds.

    'Nothing Beautiful'

    First I drank insecticide
    A little more each day
Followed by dirty and sugary food
Grown where the light was gray
Later my thoughts were small and sharp
    Adapted to their purpose
To extract the fuel from fat
    Under the lovely surface

    'Cause nothing beautiful
    Nothing beautiful lasts

It may have been Camelot for Jack and Jacqueline
But on the Che Guevara highway filling up with gasoline
Fidel Castro's brother spies a rich lady who's crying
    Over luxury's disappointment
So he walks over and he's trying
To sympathise with her but he thinks that he should warn her

Slim, this is one of the only John Prine songs that I really know, great opening lines:
I know a guy that's got a lot to lose.
He's a pretty nice fellow but he's kind of confused.
He's got muscles in his head that ain't never been used.
Thinks he own half of this town.

"That's the Way that the World Goes 'Round" -- John Prine

Do you know it?   Great lyrics throughout the song.  :D
