Ok, now you are just toying with me. There are at least a dozen. I'll go with those that are still alive and say Derek Trucks, check out the song Elvin. If this doesn't make your eyes water, have your pulse checked. This is what I use to test studio monitor speakers. That and anything by Steely Dan where Larry Carlton is involved. Mark Knopler and Larry on the same record (Gaucho) and it's hard to ask for better than that. -

I thought of Jeff Beck too, but if he were involved, it would be his band. Jeff is coming to Boston in March....I'll finally get to see him live. -

Matty - I had the chance to see Jimmy, Eric and Jeff play together when they did the ARMS tour to benefit Ronnie Lane.
It was absolutely amazing and when all three got on stage together, it was completely insane. But it was then when my scale tilted to Jeff. He literally blew them both away. Clealy Page and Clapton are better song writers, but Jeff's virtuosity was mind blowing. -

jonny greenwood and matt bellamy are both crazy lead guitarists, but one is also the frontman and both are multi-instrumentalists...so sticking with the lead guitar only title among active musicians who have not (i think) been mentioned yet...
