    Rock and Roll Commands

Sometimes, it takes a spoken command to get the song rolling. So here's the topic: Songs that begin with a spoken command.

    Three examples:

"The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead," XTC -- "Let's begin!"

"Sweet Home Alabama," Skynyrd -- "Turn it up!"

"Rudy Can't Fail," the Clash -- "Sing, Michael, Sing!"

This seems to be above my pay grade ... or are they rare?

Can only think of songs that have commands in the middle -- or at least spoken words in the middle.

    Maybe later.

    To be quite pedantic....

"Man, that's what I call a New York joint man. Man, you can pick your teeth with a New York joint."

is from between "The Encore Begins" and "Rock me" on Felt Forum Show 4.

It's also on "Little Red Rooster" from the "Alive she cried" and "In Concert"albums. On the Doors official website,it's listed in the lyrics with "Little Red Rooster".

I didn't remember hearing it before "Rock Me" on the "Live in New York" CD set,but I listened and sure enough, there it was.

By the way,you might want to check out the Doors website if you haven't yet. They have multiple versions of their songs live and the dates they were performed.I found it to be pretty interesting. There's some great rare stuff to listen to.

I suppose it may stretch some people's definition of "rock-n-roll," but at the beginning of Please, Please, Baby, you can hear the producer say "Hang on a second,"  to which Dwight Yoakam replies: "Hang on to this, Buddy!" and then goes into the signature opening riff.

    It's Chris Farley Show awesome.

Now you listen here! He's not the Messiah . . .   he's a very naughty boy!
