    Rocker ID (Forum CPR)

Anybody here?   Anyone game?  Maybe this will liven up the forum.   I'll start with a few clues:

    American

Vocalist, songwriter, under-appreciated and unheralded guitarist, in his day and to this day.

His band (at the time) had a number one hit song when he was still a teenager; a very well-known band making it big in the US during the same time period, knocked them out of the top spot with "Yesterday".  :)

Regardless, that hit song has guaranteed rock immortality to the band / this rocker.

Most of his career, however, has been with other bands, or going solo.  He's played with or been a featured guitarist with Steely Dan,  Joe Vitale, Alice Cooper, Todd Rundgren, and co-wrote a song for Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors" album, and was one of her tour musicians from '86-'92.  He guested on a KISS album, although he was not credited for it.  Toured with Ringo Starr's 11th All-Star Band for 2 years.  The list is endless.

    Anyone?

Nice wok, and right on the money.   A friend posted the song (in the OP) on FB with the video and it's one of my favorite classic hits.   Rick Derringer seems to be one of those musicians we refer to as "under appreciated" to the masses, although he's deeply appreciated inside the rock community.  I was looking at some of his albums on Amazon, and he seems to get the highest praise for his blues guitar.   Also saw that the same people who were likely to purchase a Derringer album, were looking at Deep Purple, too.   Figures this was an easy one for you.

Excellent song, but the song in the OP that I referred to is the *other* big hit -- Sloopy.  I love that song and it's always been a real summer classic to me as well.   The video was considered risqué in its day - don't have time to grab it now, but maybe later.

Glad that (at least) a few of us are still hanging around.

Good call on Rick Derringer and the McCoy's "Hang on Sloopy".I saw him with Johnny and Edgar Winter for my first bar concert at a little place called Shaker Park back in 1974 which was just after Derringer's first solo album came out.

His first solo album "All American Boy" had a few hidden gems on it along with his signature mega hit "Rock and Roll Hootchie Coo".Contributing on the album was Suzi Quatro,Joe Walsh,Edgar Winter,David Bromberg and others.

There's 2 instrumentals on the album called "Time Warp" and "Joyride" that are decent listening.Songs like "Cheap Tequila","Uncomplicated" are the hidden gems on the album as well as this song called "Slide on over Slinky"

Yes, he is kind of underrated.  He did a lot of work with Johnny and Edgar Winter and some of his finest stuff can be found in those albums.

THANKS.   That's not Sloopy, however.   Everyone loved (and still loves) Sloopy.

No it wasn't "Hang on Sloopy" which is a damn fine song,it was a clever(or maybe not so clever)attempt at humor on my part.I hadn't posted in here for a while so I thought I'd let anyone who cared know that, like the song says, I'm still alive and well.

Hang On Sloopy is part of the Louie Louie family of rock 'n' roll songs. Classic primitive beat.

I thought you posted the song to signify that Rick Derringer was still alive and well, that's the connection I made, to be honest, since he's been so successful on his own terms.

No one has been posting, and I am very happy to see that you're well and still here!!   I just didn't get the connection with the song, but it is a damn fine song as well.  Emoticons finally work, too?!
