I was thinking about the next group and realized that it could be a gigantic list. Example; Rock guitarists. I can probably list 100 guitarists that could garner consideration, but it would take 6 months to come up with a single poll winner.

So I was thinking that for a week, we open it up to nominations. Everyone list 5 guitarists that they think should be considered. Assuming that there are repeat nominations, we might be able to start off with a reasonable number.

Also, we narrow the focus to those who are considered RnR. Example, no Jazz guitarists.

    What say you?

    Great idea.

Just remember, I used 25 names for the Female Rocker thread, and it's probably going to end up taking 5-6 weeks to get to the bitter end. That includes the idea that I changed up the voting scheme, as I deliberately slowed it down because there was too much cancelling out of votes.

So after you get the input and knock off the duplicates, you'll have to decide if you want to hover around that same number of names.  More names, more weeks.  Nothing wrong with that, necessarily.  You have the advantage of the first game to do your benchmarking, that's all.

That's a very good idea.  Sort of like how Wayne Gretzky would be eliminated from hockey pools back in the day.

Re: Thinking About the next voting poll/contest.

I've been looking at other voting schemes.  And I saw a game with this topic that started with about 50 names, it's still working after 3.5 months.  The scheme has remained 1 up / 1 down the entire time.

The one thing they did, which is fascinating and shows the common ground for those of you with vast knowledge of the topic, they actually discussed Hendrix from the get-go, and agreed to exclude him.

Their list is American guitarists only, BTW.

P.S.:  I also think you should go for it and start with way more than 25 names.  I was a bit shy about the first thread of this style here, and worried about making it too long.  Being the first thread, I wanted you to see results faster.   Now I'd be more bold.  :D

No need for a contest Randy Rhoads was the best.  Imagine if he lived a little longer and was able to further developed his skills.

Re: Thinking About the next voting poll/contest.

well that's the thing about these contests, isn't it?  i mean, depending on what this is labeled, it is going to be a subjective contest, not just on chops alone but who is everyone's favorite.
