Re: Thinking About the next voting poll/contest.

This is a partial list of *Americans only* I saw on another board (I can get the rest of the alpha list later, it was too long to put in one post) ; thought you might find it interesting to see a list that others came up with for a game thread:

    Allman, Duane
    Betts, Richard
    Bloomfield, Mike
    Bloom, Eric
    Bolan, Tommy
    Bonamassa, Joe
    Bouchard, Joe
    Braun, Erc
    Bruce, Michael
    Buxton, Glen

    Caldwell, Toy
    California, Randy
    Chacuico, Craig
    Cippolina, John
    Collins, Allan
    Coryell, Larry
    Cray, Robert
    Derringer, Rick
    Dharma, Buck

    Felder, Don
    Fogerty, John
    Frehley, Ace
    Garcia, Jerry
    Geils, J
    Gibbons, Billy
    Gorham, Scott

Re: Thinking About the next voting poll/contest.

Not the easiest topic...and it's even harder not to include some of the greats of jazz, blues and country music, american or otherwise:

    Chet Atkins
    Larry Carlton
    Robert Cray
    Les Paul
    B.B. King
    Jaco Pastorius
    Django Reinhardt
    Tim Reynolds

screw that, dont limit it to american. the list will be far more competitive if you keep it guitarists from anywhere, and it won't be as boring

Re: Thinking About the next voting poll/contest.

Wasn't suggesting it by any means.   Just thought the list would be of interest, even though it only included Americans.  The list of internationals is still supposed to be rock only, per jessey's OP, so you have limited it by genre, whereas the list of Americans is mixed genre.  So you know, one way or another, you are restricting the list to keep it to a reasonable number.

Sometimes it's easier to start with something (in this case, a list of names) and then add and subtract from it, than to start from scratch.  Not my football (to quote Greg), so it's up to jessey this time.  :)

When I can sit back and put together a comprehensive list of what was submitted, I will get started. But that may not happen anytime soon due to some sh*t I need to handle.

is there anything different some of you would like to see when I put this together? Any slight changes to the voting structure?

So, has it been decided...?  Is this the topic of choice...?

Just my two cents, but given the overall knowledge and opinions of the group, this seems a bit like a fait accompli....

    Again, just my 2c.

Do you want to come up with some other topics that will have a less predictable outcome?

I can think of a few.

I just thought of another idea if you want to short circuit the guitarist idea and still do a short, VERY short version of it ... wait a sec.

Go for it yogafriend.  I was thinking the best guitarist list would be interesting enough if it just got whittled down to the Top 5 or Top 10, because there are so many good ones.

Re: Thinking About the next voting poll/contest.

I was thinking of something similar, Hfx!  If the list was huge, it would be enough to just whittle it down to the top 10.    That would be less predictable.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Another thing, if you want to do it JUST FOR FUN  (not a game thread, but a one-time shot guess):

I can post the list I saw that a group (of strangers) is using, with just American guitarists.

They have it whittled down to FIVE names now, after almost 4 months.

You could each guess who you think the top five are on their list AND
a list of who you think are the top 5 (if the names would be different) according to your own opinion.

It would be pretty funny to see if you can look at their list, and see if your prediction stacks up to their outcome -- funny to see if you can predict in one shot, what took them 4 months to do!

Re: Thinking About the next voting poll/contest.

I posted the list that was created by a bunch of people you don't know, and whose opinions you know nothing about (other than seeing who is on their list in the first place).

Maybe this will show how predictable (or not) it would be if this group did the same game thread, (but without limiting to Americans only).

NOTE: They left Hendrix off the list deliberately.

You may be really shocked at the outcome of a bunch of strangers, I don't know.

    OK - not guitarists.

What suggestions do you have; album, live artist, lyricist?

here's two that should be in the top 5 of anyone who takes R "N" R seriously:

    FOREVER CHANGES----LOVE
    ODESSEY AND ORACLE----ZOMBIES.

How about albums of the 60s...

...to narrow it down just a bit and avoid any obvious bias toward more 'modern' rock...??

Albums of the 70s might end up as a battle-royale cage match...

    ;)

i think the 70s would be awesome...because the beatles would dominate the 60s. at least, i hope they would.  a cage match is welcome in my book!

Re: Thinking About the next voting poll/contest.

The only way we could do the 1970's would be to do either one specific year or a range of not more than 2-3 years.

No way we could do the entire decade.  Too crazy many.  IMHO.

i just realized that you posted something in your O.P. on the female rockers game thread when people got eliminated, haha! those were funny to read.

25 defining rock albums from the 70s doesnt sound tyoo bad...we COULD limit 1 per artist? or 2? i dunno. whatever jessey wants to do, i will follow his lead.
