    Share/Discuss Your Favorite Music Videos

I don't think I've ever made a thread here, somehow...

...so, I want to ask you all about your favorite music videos.

We all know the classics, but I'm referring specifically to the which music videos you think are REALLY cool.  Not just a song you really dig, but to you, the video itself could stand alone.

Mainstream, underground, old, new, anything goes.  I'm interested to see what you all have to share.

My favorite music videos are (for the most part) all by one artist.  In some cases, the music seemingly almost just serves as a score for the video itself.

I highly recommend checking these out, I'm want to hear your thoughts and suggestions.

    Just

    High and Dry

    No Surprises

Which Traveling Wilbury's video had the empty chair with Roy Orbison's guitar. That brought a shiver to me.

Does the movie "Hard Day's Night" count? Or the whole Monkee TV series?

Great subject.Good call on NIN's Closer too WDYWN.
IMO,the video that really set the standard was Micheal Jackson's Thriller. There's been a lot of great videos made so it's hard to pick only a few. So,I went with a few different types of videos that I like:
    The first is really intense/creepy-
    Aphex Twin: Come to Daddy
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Az_7U0-cK0

Good video that goes through the changes in music over the years-
Red Hot Chili Peppers: Dani California
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sb5aq5HcS1A

Cool 1970's cop show type video-
    Beastie Boys:Sabatoge

    Video's come in four categories:

    Live Performance
    Characterization of the actual song
    T & A
    Dance Videos

Perhaps breaking them down may help come up with a list:

Queensryche did some excellent videos for tracks from their Operation Mindcrime concept album. I also think Pearl Jam's Jeremy was well done and a shot to the chin.

There are quite a number of bands who released videos with live performances synched in that are excellent.

    Hip-Hop & Hair Band artists ruled with T&A video's.

MJ ruled with the dance video's. I was never all that impressed with Thriller as anything more than just that, a dance video.

I will also add a fourth type of music video, ones that tell stories and have absolutely nothing to do with the music.

Just look at the 4 I posted in the OP for examples :)

I have to admit, I prefer High and Dry - song and Concert footage synched video by Def Leppard.

1981 - A couple of them were still teenagers at this time.

Rock and Roll like it was meant to be Tongue out

To me music videos are the Eighties...but that's partly a reflection of how old I am.

I always liked Def Leppard's 'Rock of Ages' video.  And I think one of the best at combining a good song with a story-telling video was Yes's 'Owner of a Lonely Heart'.

Wierd Al is his own category as he has so many videos.

I still think The Buggles Video Killed The Radio Star was ahead of its time when it was the first video to air on MTV.

I don't remember the song but it's from the Rolling Stones. Not too long ago and it's about a guy who has split up with a girl and all sorts of bad things happen to him.

I really liked Today Was A Good Day from Ice Cube.

And how can you have a list like this without DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince?

Yup. Weird Al was the best.

'Eat it' was a great spoof on the Michael Jackson video, the 'Smells Like Nirvana' video was also great....and of course the 'I Lost On Jeopardy' one was too much.

Good music and comedy go together like turkey and stuffing.

Listen to Weird Al for Thanksgiving. Better than football or silly parades.

Take On Me - Ah Ha

    Tonight - Smashing Pumpkins

That White Snake Video with Tanny Katain - not sure of the spelling, who cares? she was hot!

It was the 80's....then MTV became reality(?) TV...lol

Ok Weird Al aside, yeah he is funny and made great stuff.  Its not that easy to do what he does.

Take on Me was a great video.
Hurt by J. Cash was the best video ever, but I would think that goes without saying.
Money for Nothing another great video.

Any video with tawni Katin dancing on a couple of Jags has to rate high.

Take On Me was great. Also enjoyed Berlin's Metro

Another category - songs which were part of movie soundtracks.

Truth be known - Photograph D.L. always hold a special place for me as it was the video that opened the doors for Hard Rock to join the rotation list on MTV.

I don't remember the title (might've been Don't Stop It but I'm not sure) but it was a hit for Herbie Hancock (the one with the machines).

Axel F - Don't remember who made it but this was the one of the better detective videos I can remember.

     Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins

Smokin' In The Boys Room - Motley Crue

Theme from Running Scared - Micheal MacDonald, I believe.
