Songs not on the right album.
posted at 5/7/2011 1:06 PM EDT
I can think of two rock songs which have the same name as an LP, but are not on that LP.
For example, many Eagles LP's have a song on the album that the title is derived from, say 'Desparado' or 'Hotel California', the song of the same name is on that LP. But, I know of at least two cases where the title song of an LP actually can be found on another LP by the group.
Can you guess the two I am thinking of ....and possibly come up with more? -

The one I can think of off-hand is Led Zeppelin's Houses of the Holy which is on the Physical Graffiti album, rather than the album of its own name.
Maybe another one will come to me ... -

ELP - the song Brain Salad Surgery was on the Works Vol. 2 album.

The ELP song was one of the songs I had in mind.
Didn't think of the Led Zep song....not sure why I forgot that one.
I knew Mr. HF would get the ELP song and I would be quite surprised if he doesn't guess the other before too long. -

Well, Zilla, there's a song called 'Blue Oyster Cult' on the Imaginos album instead of on their self-titled debut album, so I guess that's the one you mean. -

See what I mean. I can't fool this guy.
For extra credit what other bands have a song and album that is the same as the group's name?
'Blue Oyster Cult' group , the debut album was 'Blue Oyster Cult', the song on Imaginos was 'Blue Oyster Cult.'
I know of at least two others. -

Canned Heat. Their first album was self titled. The old Tommy Johnson song 'Canned Heat' appeared on their 4th album, 'Hallelujiah'.
For the extra credit: Bad Company. -

Without dragging out the vinyl, I'm pretty damned sure Bad Company is the first song on side 2 of their namesake first album. -

Sounds about right. The extra credit didn't seem to have the same requirement as the original question though. I demand full credit! ;-) -

Here's another one for the original question:
Queen's song Sheer Heart Attack was on the News of the World album.
For the bonus question:
Black Sabbath
King Crimson, if 'Court of the Crimson King' counts -

If you expand it to include any song that has the group's name in it, Queen has at least 4 songs with the word 'Queen' in it (if you allow 'God Save the Queen').
Sweet had a song called 'Sweet F.A.'.

Black Sabbath and Bad Company were the two I was thinking about.
King Crimson doesn't count the song is wrong. -

Slight variation on the theme - Pete Townshend's song "Face Dances" (part 2) was on the album All the Best Cowboys have Chinese Eyes, rather than The Who's Face Dances album.
Since there is no "Face Dances" (part 1) song, perhaps the part 2 designation is a nod to the prior album title.
