SotD - April 27, 2012 - Today in Rock History...

1948 - Singer Kate Pierson (The B-52's) is born in Weehawken, NJ.

1951 - KISS guitarist Ace Frehley (Paul Daniel Frehley) is born in the Bronx.

1969 - Joe Cocker makes his U.S. debut on The Ed Sullivan Show.

1975 - Pink Floyd concludes a five-night engagement at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. In all, over 500 fans are arrested, mostly for marijuana possession. LA Police Chief Ed Davis says “They have a dope festival. It’s called a Rock concert or something.” It begs the question: Is it possible to listen to Pink Floyd without drugs? [ed. possible? yes, but a bit like pb without the j, imnsho...]

1990 - Axl Rose marries Don Everly’s daughter Erin. As a general rule, the daughters of Rock ‘n’ Roll stars should not marry Rock stars. It’s the ultimate in dysfunctional. The marriage lasts a wonderful 27 days.

Tough choices here, but I'll go with the Space Ace and a standout track from what, IMO, was the absolute best of the band's 'solo' albums:

    "New York Groove"

"I'm going to Graceland, Memphis, Tennessee
Poor boys and pilgrims with families
We're going to Graceland ... For reasons I cannot explain
There's some part of me, wants to see Graceland"

I'll go to my grave (hopefully many, many decades from now) having never understood the appeal of Joe Cocker.
