I'm sure many of you know that Dylan altered history with his first electric guitar performance at the Newport Folk Festival on July 25, 1965; that's the historic performance (and guitar) when Dylan made the sea change from acoustic to electric guitar, shocking the folkies who were in attendance.
The show is going to investigate the whereabouts of the guitar and estimate its monetary worth.
The show is also going to feature the authenticity of some Beatles' signatures, and Frank Zappa artwork (I think). The main focus seems to be Dylan's guitar, but they are covering three rock stories in the premiere.
For local / metro-Boston, the premiere is Tuesday, July 17, at 9:00 p.m. (tonight) -- otherwise, check out your local PBS affiliatel.
NOTE: An update to the guitar investigation has been posted on the PBS website; there's a dispute between Dylan's attorney and the History Detectives as to the accuracy of the investigation and the current location and ownership of the guitar. Either way, the guitar and Dylan's use of it are considered important pieces of our American folk music history:
