    Train Kept a Rollin

Okay gang - which version of this great classic should be considered the definitive version.

There are several remakes of this song and more than twice that many live versions done.

Aerosmith,  and I'm not an Aerosmith nut, they just owned that tune.

They are up against some pretty good competition, though.

Yeah, that version on Get Your Wings is one serious piece of boogie.  It has a nicely chaotic feel to it, the kind that I think was very influential on Slash.

the only time i will ever say aerosmith truly nailed it the best.

    now, come together...that's an atrocity.

Did not know that.  Who did the solos?

Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter did the dueling guitar leads. Both Wagner and Hunter were close with Bob Ezrin who was the producer on that track. Wagner and Hunter went on to record with Alice Cooper on his "Welcome to my Nightmare" album. Ezrin and Alice have an extremely close working relationship.

You are correct on that Slim.

FYI - Wagner and Hunter can wail on the 6 string - that is for sure.

FYI - I have to agree that the version heard on the "Get Your Wings'" album is without a doubt the best of the bunch. But youtube the song and you will see some amazing performances by many different artists do this song live. It is a great song.

See that HFX - not bad for a internet forum. And it is almost as entertaining as the Sox forum; the only difference here is that we all look to learn new things from each other.

Agreed.  Say it all the time.  Funny (and cool) thing is that many of the drive-by posters have sports screen names / avatars, and they usually make great contributions (that includes all sports, many Celts fans as well as Sox fans).

    On the song ...

Are many bands given equal credit for popularizing this song?  Or is it really Aerosmith?   I didn't know much about it, but when I looked it up, I saw why it was such a great question and why you asked.

It's too late now, but as Slim said, this would have been a real kickazz trivia question.

    Re: Train Kept a Rollin

Considering its origins are in the 50's; brought back by The Yardbirds in the 60's and then again in the 70's by Aerosmith, I would be hard pressed to say for sure regarding the popularization of the song itself. It was never a top 10 hit. I don't even think it charted in the top 40, but I would have to look that up to be sure.

I have a fondness for everything done by the Yardbirds.

So it's not possible for me to make an impartial choice.
