Two artists that you would never have expected to work together.

Name some artists that worked together that you never would have expected.

First one for me, Elton John plays keyboards on an Alice In Chains track.

2nd - Stevie Ray Vaughan playing guitar on David Bowie's 'Let's Dance.'

Slash performed with Michael Jackson once.

MJ was less than pleased when Slash refused to stop solo'ing.

Slayer guitarist Kerry King played on Beastie Boys' "No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn"

(Rick Rubin produced both Licensed To Ill and Reign In Blood around the same time.)

It's been mentioned here before, but the strangest may still be Bing Crosby and David Bowie on the Little Drummer Boy. It is amazing how good they sounded together. Eminen and Elton John on Stan was pretty unique, as was the collaboration between Alicia Keys' and Jack White on Another way to Die off the Quantum of Solace Soundtrack.

You beat me to the Elton-Eminem collaboration (AFAIK it was just that once on the Grammy show?) - EJ did the Dido sample, thus synching this with the sampling thread.

Dean Martin sang and acted like Mr. Smooth.  Jerry Lewis was a genius at being a wacko and when he occasionally sang in the movies it was in a comedic voice.  Somehow they complimented each other in all those movies.

    Def Leppard and Taylor Swift.

A couple not so strange but still interesting:

Eric Clapton played guitar on Roger Waters' album "The Pros and Cons of Hithhiking."

And Don Henley sang with Roger Waters on a song Waters' album "Amused to Death."

    Todd Rundgren and the Cars

Nope.  Ric Ocasek and Ben Orr were not involved.  Nor was David Robinson.  You can replace the drummer easily, but the 2 frontmen defined the Cars.   It would be more acurate to say Rundgren worked with 2 guys who used to play in the Cars and they happened to use a similar name for this new band.

Rundgren was friends with the original band from way back at the start though.  So any sort of collaboration wouldn't be a complete surprise.

    • Bing and Bowie:  Yes!...and I'm not a huge fan of either.
    • Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé:  Yes!  And I despise him and barely knew her even then....great joke at the time but rang and still rings true (as do all good jokes):  Their famous collaboration "Barcelona"?  If you think your city should have the honour of hosting the Olympics, sing their song in your head and if you can substitute your city's name for Barcelona's without laughing, bid.  If not....Cleveland.....San Antonio....Manchester.....
    • ...and for 31 years and counting.....Peter Greenberg and Barrance Whitfield.  I'm begging you, buy their new record yesterday and if they play Boston when they finish their European tour (Peter lives in Texas) at the end of October make it a priority.

Okay.  But the point is, Rundgren did NOT collaborate with the Cars.  He collaborated with two sidemen that played in the Cars.    That's a difference that you don't seem to recognize.

No, I understood your point....I just never would have put him into the band or the drummer from the Tubes Prarrie Prince! Wink

    Check this one out!

Brian Wilson had a busy ’60s.He founded the Beach Boys, penned two dozen Top 40 singles, produced the landmark “Pet Sounds” and began long battles with drug addiction, obesity and mental illness. But he didn’t listen to the music of the Yardbirds — the British Invasion band that included Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page.“I didn’t remember them,” Wilson said from tour rehearsals in Miami. “I think I had heard of them, but I didn’t know their music or who played for them.”That changed in 2005, when guitar god Jeff Beck paid tribute to Wilson at the annual Grammy’s MusiCares event. The Backstreet Boys, John Legend, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and more performed Beach Boys classics. But it was Beck’s scorching six-string on “Surf’s Up” Wilson remembered.Last summer, looking for a little fire to add to a new solo album he’s working on, Wilson reached out to Beck. The two got along so well at the recording sessions they decided to put together a tour — the pair stop at the Wang Theatre on Wednesday.

I'm surprised you even know what Zooey Deschanel looks like.  ;P

If you read what I wrote (the operative adjective is "young" ---   that Deschanel looks like a "young"  Linda Ronstadt --  go back and check) then you'd know your comment is off the mark.   Read before you comment; it helps.
