WGBH Radio to present Live From Scullers jazz performances Eric Jackson hosts series of three Friday night specials

Boston Public Radio 89.7FM is joining with Scullers Jazz Club for a series of three live broadcasts from the landmark jazz venue. Live From Scullers will be presented as part of the Friday 'Eric in the Evening' program on WGBH.

The special broadcasts will feature violinist Regina Carter on December 28; trumpeter Roy Hargrove on January 18; and drummer Antonio Sanchez on February 22. Eric Jackson will join the artists at Scullers and introduce them to radio audiences at 10pm.

"Live From Scullers is an exciting addition to our weekend jazz programming, and a special new approach in WGBH's longstanding tradition of supporting and amplifying local jazz artists and venues," said Phil Redo, Managing Director of WGBH Radio.

"We're thrilled to be able to extend the intimacy of the Scullers club performances to the wider audience of Eric's listeners," said jazz impresario Fred Taylor, Artistic Director for Scullers. "This is an exciting first for Scullers and WGBH." And thanks to Sam Kopper of Locomote Media for making it possible.

The series begins on December 28 at 10pm when acclaimed jazz violinist Regina Carter will be performing music from her new album, "Reverse Thread' a collection of traditional African folk melodies that Carter infuses with a modern feel. Lauded as one of the finest violinists of her generation, Carter captures the essence of original music through a lens of contemporary interpretation. Thanks Robin. I saw Regina Carter a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I had never heard Jazz played on the Violin before, and her modern take on classic jazz standards are really neat. Saw Hargrove at Newport as well, he is good.
