    ...a newer band discovered at the Vibes this weekend; eclectic...not your typical jam band...brilliant percussion....

    ...just found out that they won a boston music award for best live show a couple years ago.  Good call, that.

    full album day for me today, (somewhat) nostalgic.

    1. College Dropout - Kanye West
    -his debut album, he mastered the art of tasteful sampling on this one, not relying too heavily on them and making them into his own by building them up and fleshing them out.  delightfully playful, with only a hint of the ego of his to come.

    2. Californication - RHCP
    -though some claim they sold out on this one, i say that they found the perfect sound and maintained the balance throughout the album FAR better than most other bands could ever dream of.  as close as RHCP can get to a perfect album, IMHO.

    3. Speakerboxx/The Love Below - Outkast
    -double disc. while it has its hits and misses, it was a very experimental album for a duo who has always pushed the limits of their creativity.  Both Andre 3000 and Big Boi have their own disc with extremely contrasting styles, helping each other out along the way along with numerous guest appearances.  certainly genre-defying at times.

    I listened to a copy of the Levon Helm band taped at the Vibes over the weekend.  A friend of mine taped it and gave me a copy.  Waiting on a copy of Furthur.

    I'm listening with the intent of stealing it for myself. Should take an hour or so and I'll have most of it in my head.  Except for a few runs I won't even have to watch it with a guitar in my hands either.  Only took 30 years of playing to get here!

    BTW, yogafriend, I see one of your songs was by Gin Blossoms.  Craig Northey of Odds/Strippers Union also recorded an album with Jesse Valenzuela from Gin Blossoms.

    Right this very second I'm listening to Loudon Wainwright's Muse Blues, from his Recovery album.

    Most people don't have nearly enough Loudon in their lives.

    The Gin Blossoms have had some great hits -- in fact I'm a bit of a fan.  They might rate a thread.

    Unfortunately , I am listening to a bunch of idiots ask dumb questions.

    I'd rather be listening to some decent music, I think I'd be playing Rainbow or join HFnut and listen to some Uriah Heep if I could, but I am stuck here at work , vacation is still some 6 weeks away....at least they play a few good tunes here, though. 'I Fought the Law' by Bobby Fuller Four, 'Pinball Wizard' quite a few Stones and Beatles tunes...I shouldn't complain...

    Alan Holdsworth, Secrets.  1989, but it was just remastered.  I don't try and play it, I just listen, cuz he pi55es me off.

    Yes, Turn of the Century (Going for the One) - This one I am trying to figure out because it is just so stunningly gorgeous.

    But its a btch!  Howe is something.

    I also just DVR'd an SRV thingy from PBS.  What a loss.
