I'm new to this forum so I apologize if this has been done before? What rock or pop song is the greatest remake? Meaning much better then the original? My vote 1. All along the watchtower-Hendrix 2. I heard it through the Grapevine-Marvin Gaye(This would be higher but Gladys Knight and the Pips version was almost as good. And Creedance didn't do to bad a remake either)3. Twist and Shout-Beatles. There are others that are close but not quite like. Well all right by Traffic. Nice remake but not quite Buddy Holly. And Bob Seeger's Fortunate Son was pretty good but not quite Creedance. I'm sure there are others I've missed but I can't think of them all but those 3 are the top rock ones. I have a feeling a few Dylan re-makes will make the list.

Forgot about one that should be in the top three or four. "Both sides now" by Judy Collins. Always liked it better then Joni's original.

Aerosmith's version or Yardbirds version - Hard to choose!

Walk This Way - Good, but not as good as the original.

I cannot believe I forgot this song. Faster Pussycat redid "You're So Vain" which was originally recorded by Carly Simon. This remake is a thing of beauty and sleaze.

In 2008 there was a VH1 Rock tribute show for The Who.  Pearl Jam did Love Reign O'Er Me and The Real Me.  I thought they did a sensational job.  Eddie Vedder absolutely shreds his vocal chords but never loses it for a moment.  Check it out.  (The intro by Sean Penn lasts just over a minute.)    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjB1r77JljM

The Trashmen do a killer version of "Walking the Dog" also.

How about the Pixies version of Head On?  Vastly superior than the original (Jesus and Mary Chain I believe)

"Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers. Their rendition is great musical art and may possibly be listened to centuries from now, if the world survives.  Others sang the song before the Righteous Brothers.  'The first to sing the song was Todd Duncan in the obscure prison movie, "Unchained".  Soon after (1955) Al Hibbler sang his version on the pop charts.'

But their version of Ballroom Blitz originally done by Sweet is horrible.

I think The Runaways did a great version of Lou Reed's Rock and Roll. Mott also did a great version of Sweet Jane.
