RnR? I'd send Mozart or Bach or Beethoven...most particularly, Yo Yo Ma playing Bach's Cello Concertos solo.....but...
Perhaps Kashmir (Zep). -

I suspect that extraterrestrials would not have mastered the English language ( or any other human tongue) , so with that in mind let's send out an instrumental.
I vote for 'Theme From Hawaii Five-O.'
Brilliant song and wouldn't it be funny if the first words uttered from an extraterrestrial to an earthling were , "Book 'em Danno!" -

I would probably not opt to send anything except a few very careful pieces of information.
If there is alien life, it could take any form. Thus far we've only thought of how carbon-based and silicon-based work/might work, but then again, we don't know much of anything.
Who knows? Perhaps what I view as an extremely peaceful work that extolls beauty for its own sake (Yo Yo Ma/Bach) is threatening in some way. Maybe it isn't music, it's something like "I'll kill your mother and eat your dog" in their language (See Douglass Adams on the trouble with wormholes). Or a threatening sound. Or - in an astounding coincidence - the sound of their homeworld's ancient war music?
Frankly, I don't think we should be attempting any positive contact (that is, poking things with sticks.... I have no problem looking for incomming signals) for at least 1,000 years. Maybe 10,000. We're basically ants trying to talk to potential Gods at this point, praying that the ones we contact happen to be nice.
We also need to know we can avoid destroying ourselves utterly whilst developing far superior tech. What's the point of saying "hello" if it takes 1,000 to say it, 1,000 to get an answer, and a billion to fly there with our best propulsion?
What if they're nice and we're the @ssholes. But they're also way advanced?
And of course, we can talk about pathogens. What if their biology is somehow close enough that through contact, one or both accidentally exterminates the other?
Still, this isn't exactly a world summit to decide the question, so... I'll stop being serious. -

We Are The World - not. Its got to be the Stones. Can't You Here Me Knockin. I love that song. It shouldn't just be ON DSV9. They should continuously broadcast it to the entire universe. -

This is one of those topics that could drive you crazy if you think about it too much, so I'm going to say Elvis Presley's Guitar Man and just leave it at that.

Or maybe Steppenwolf's Born to be wild. That should make the little green dudes peg the hyper drive throttle. -
