Only because of a personal experience, the song Fly to the Angels by Slaughter does cause me to take a deep breath. Although the song was written as a tribute to Amelia Earhart, the lyrics and tone of the song hit hard when I lost someone to gun violence back in the 90's.
Two other songs also cause me to pause as they both have a very close connection to my late father and now that so many years have passed, they also allow me to reflect back on my life; Both accomplishments ad regrets and the fact that I never was graced with children:
Old Man - Neil Young
It Was a Very Good Year - Frank Sinatra -

Well, I went through the list. Hallelujah, Tears from Heaven (killer) and Unchained Melody were good choices. The other 13 kinda svck, and I Will Always Love You is a Dolly Parton song.
"Here a song thats guaranteed to bring you right down. Its called, Don't Let it Bring You Down. It sorta starts off real slow and then fizzles out all together". - Neil Young, Four Way Street
Eleanor Rigby. Beatles (Paul and George Martin)
Garden of Gethsemane (I Only Want to Say) - Ian Gillan, Jesus Christ Superstar - Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice
I can actually cry when a play the last one, which makes for a rather moving performance, (if I do say so myself) -

Collin Raye: "One Boy One Girl" gets me every time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnUEteN90hM
I should probably be embarassed to admit it. It is one of those classically styled country tunes that circles around on itself:
One boy, one girl
Two hearts beating wilding
To put it mildly it was love at first sight.....
This is the chorus that pops up after two people meet, after they say their I-do's at the altar, and then after they visit the doctor for an ultrasound ("He was holding her hand when the doctor looked up and grinned. Congratulations -- Twins. One boy, one girl, two hearts beating wildly....")
Yeah, I should be too cool for it, but it just catches me every time. I think when a songwriter tells a story using just enough words to convey the scene and the full emotions of the moment -- well, you're pulled in good and solid. -

It's a lot older than I am, but I think the saddest song ever was written by Irving Berlin:What'll I do when you are far awayAnd I am blue, What'll I do?What'll I do when I am wond'ring whoIs kissing you, What'll I do?What'll I do with just a photographTo tell my troubles to?When I'm alone with only dreams of youThat won't come true, What'll I do? -
