Re: Your favorite Chinese food in the Boston area?

"First off, chicken teriyaki, pork fried rice, crab rangoon & low mein are NOT Chinese food. Second, once you actually eat Chinese food you simply can't stomach the swill that we get at typical "Chinese" places in the US."

Amen. The same can be said about just every Americanized ethnic food. The natives with well honed taste buds would avoid 99% of the kind of places mentioned here like a plague.

For those who are interested, Jennifer 8. Lee's book is a fun and educational read on the subject:

Technically not Chinese, but Gourmet Dumpling (Taiwanese) on Beach Street in Chinatown is the best I have had. Do yourself a favor and get the Hu Shin Eggplant. Be prepared to wait in line.....def. worth it though.

Chinese people never order off of the menu. We order based on what the freshest ingredients are on that day.

Agreed!  We always go off the menu when we're in Chinatown.

I love China Garden in Malden....I am a loyal and happy camper there...real full Egg Rolls loaded with fresh chopped up veggies and pork, not the mushy roll in other eateries....my favorite chef is...Que....his mastery of preparing whatever is entertainment by itself.....my favorite is a big bed of fried wonton covered with Chicago Beef Chow Mein....and when that brown sauce seeps into the wonton it becomes an epicurian delight to enjoy....the counter young man is ...hep....another joy of China Garden in Malden.....prices are competitive as well as reasonable....as the Chinese say upon greeting you, "Have you eaten yet"...DING--HOW

Don't usually eat much Chinese, but I do like Gourmet Garden in Swampscott when I do eat it. Good drinks, the food is always fresh and tasty, and the staff is always so nice. It really is a pleasurable experience.
