Not that the grand prize winners need my sympathy, but is anyone else appalled that the grand prizes on shows like America's Got Talent, American Idol and others are paid out in annuities over a longer time period than even the lottery? For instance, the AGT grand prize of $1 million is paid out over 40 years, which means the winner really only gets $25,000 per year before taxes. This, while the shows' producers, hosts and judges rake in millions per year! I'd like to see the grand prize paid out in a fashion more befitting the grand prize winner of a national talent show, in one big winner's check. It's not as if these shows can't afford it. After all, the shows make a big deal about the size of the grand prize. Be fair and pay it like one!
