Haven't seen it, but it is a direct spinoff from new seasons 2-3 of Doctor Who. Think one of the characters in Torchwood was a part-time companion in Who.

i am old enough and boring enough to have seen most of the shows on this list. the only problem i have with it is placement.  the most glaring error in my estimation is 'firefly'. i would put it in the top five, if not first then possibly second.

Based on some of the shows on this list, my top snubs:
    Star Trek: Deep Space 9
    Space: Above & Beyond
    Star Trek: Enterprise
    Star Wars: The Clone Wars
SeaQuest DSV (at least season 1)

If you are going to include Xena & Wild Wild West, then the list should really include The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., as it had far more Sci-Fi in it than either one of those.  Crusade was definitely the best B5 spin-off.
DS9 was the grittiest and most human of the Star Treks, and they finally dealt with war and oppression on huge scales in Star Trek.

While I agree the BSG (reimagined) is #1, I can't support any other rankings. Firefly is way too low and no Farscape? That alone shows that you guys don't know your sci-fi.

Farscape was a great show, how could it have been left of the list? Also, how can you put a show like the Jetsons on this list? I loved the Jetsons, but they were a cartoon, not science fiction. If you consider the Jetsons SciFi then how about the Flintstones when the Great Kazoo was on it?

Poorly researched, poorly written, and poorly ranked.  They didn't even bother updating it for this latest release (ex. LOST ended).  The Globe and their top 50lists... how many times are we going to see that top 50 scariest movies of all time list run as a "fresh" piece?

The new BSG is good (top 10) but both Star Trek's - original (2) & TNG (1) are better. Original Twilight Zone would round out the top three. Take out the sub or psuedo Sci-Fi shows. Buffy should be a little higher. Add the missing is Gen X favorite cartoons - Star Blazers (top 10), Force-Five (top 20), and to a lesser degree Gen Y's Voltron and Thundercats. Avatar: The Last Airbender should also be high on this list. Maybe this is more fantasy than true Sci-Fi, but its awesome. Based on these comments I have to check out Farscape.

Re: Top 50 Science Fiction Shows

Sorry, but this list is crap. "Buffy" at 27? BEFORE "Stargate: Atlantis"?! There's opinion, then there's just ridiculousness.

It's almost like this was put together by some randomizing computer program.

Please, PLEASE do a comprehensive list. List a bunch of shows. Let people rate them on a 5-star basis. Give your "crack team" of critics final say (but be sure to note their "popular" rankings). Have more comprehensive summaries that look like some effort was put into it. Include some standard details (i.e. network aired on, years on air, stars, etc.). link to their offical websites, past stories done on them in the Globe and/or places to but the DVDs (and generate some revenue!)
Bottom line, make it comprehensve, interactive and informative and you'll get geeks from all over the place to get involved. I know that I'd hype the heck out of that.

Original Star Trek still # 1 in my book, set the bar and tone for all space shows and movies since, surprised Green Hornet did not make the list.
