    i agree - sort of -- if you see my first post on this -- i said something to the effect that circumcision doesn't hurt either.

    I think it is fair to say that any medical and/or cosmetic prodecure is going to involve some degree of pain.  Even if the pet is under anesthesia during, there will likely be some post-op pain during recovery.  For the ear-cropping issue, if an owner wants to acheive a certain look and chooses the surgery for the dog, I think what is most important is whether that owner understands post-op procedures and is willing and committed to give the dog proper care to make the pain/recovery as minimal for the dog as possible.
