@JeepersCripes, what you describe sounds like epilepsy.
If she hasn't had a neurological workup, now would be a good time.
There are meds that will keep the seizures at bay and she won't be sedated.
You don't want her to fall and break a hip or something.

PS: She's probably recieving treatment,  wanted to mention it, just in case...

Very true Kar. Probably one of the things I love most about fiance's family. They are still very old school Italian, family is first and foremost :)

Thanks Robin! Yes, she has had many works up and no diagnosis of eplipsy, that I know of? She is on medication to help with them, but we really arent sure if they are helping, since she has always had them. I am hoping that it is and the 6 or 7 she has a year is better than 20 or more she possibly could have w/o the medication.

@JeepersCripes, if she is on medication and having breakthrough seizures her meds should be reevaluated by a specialist.

The short term memory loss could be a separate issue and there are meds that may help.

    Good morning,
I am an hour behind you so it is still morning here. So glad to hear, you only had a dusting of snow. The weather report had estimated 6 - 12 inches.
Winter, I or the boys never had braces, so I really don't know, what is involved. But I can imagine, how painful it must be. Nephew had them, but he never complained. Maybe his was different. His mouth was too small for his teeth to come in, so they extracted 4 of his molars to make room for the new adult teeth.
Sorry to hear about your MIL's seizures, Jeepers. That can be really scary for the ones, that watch them. 30 seconds is a very long time. But it sounds like you know, what to do. Sad story about your fiance's ex and his children. How old are they? Sounds like you are a caring person. It will not be easy to start your new marriage with "baggage" in case, you and your fiance decide to have the oldest live with you. Big responsibility, but it does sound, that is what the boy needs. Doesn't seem fair to his siblings though.
Lovely day here again. I am alone with the kitties at present. Sitting outside near the pool typing. They both went to work. DS will be home in an hour or so. He can work from home, but had a couple of meeting to attend to this morning.
Last night we went out for Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup). We all had a big lunch, and wanted something light. DIL took out some gulf shrimps from the freezer this morning, so I suppose, that is what will be for dinner tonight. The shrimps are huge. Twice the size of what we call jumbo. And they are so delicious. Very tender and sweet. They usually marinate and grill them. DIL is a wonderful cook and so is DS manning the grill.
Going inside. It is getting too hot here in the sun. You all have a good day. Chat later.

PS. i am typing on a laptop, I am not used to, so please excuse me any typos.

So Jealous!!! It may reach 8 degrees here tomorrow and while I enjoy winter and snow, the frigid cold is just too much for me. I LOVE Pho. There was a great little place not too far from me, but they went out of business. Hard to find real authentic Pho. I have a place in NYC I try to get to once a year. I tried to get the owner to give me the broth receipe, to no avail!

Thanks, I think whenever you date/marry later(ish) in life, there is always some baggage; some its a little carryon, others its a full blown Louis Vuitton set!  :) I think with the kids being older, its becoming easier. They can decide what they want to do and are pretty good at communicating. I wouldnt want to split up the siblings either, since I think the oldest has always been kind of the younger's protector when things in that household get too chaotic. I am not really sure what will happen, but the mother seemed to make it clear that the older is basically not wanted in the house anymore and that he wont have any options but to come with us. I wouldnt mind, clearly, but I think it will be very tough for him. He is used to doing whatever he wants and getting away with it because there are never any consequences. With us, that behavior will not be tollerated.

Either way, its been definitely keeping our weekends busy!! We get a break next weekend and are heading to Freeport ME! I am so excited!!

PS- I noticed the chats about Pintrest. I am an addict. It has saved storage place in my closet from all those manila folders I have collected over the years!!! It can be a very helpful tool from recipes to crafting. I have also fully designed my future Italian bed and breakfast!!!  ;)

Pingo, what a vaca so far!  Too hot?  You poor thing.  I just shoveled the steps; it's 18 degrees in our sun.  Enjoy - we'll all basque by the pool vicariously through you and, if you don't mind, grab a couple of those fabulous shrimp.  Thanks!

JC, I think everyone has big family baggage, it's just a matter of when you discover it and what's in it!  Haven't met a "carryon" family yet, lol.

Pingo, good to hear from you - you poor thing, having to move in out of the sun and heat!! lol  What we in MA would give for that problem!  Glad your DS got you hooked up so we aren't without your posts all week.

Jeepers, I haven't taken the plunge yet for Pinterest, but just scanning down the first page you come to when you click it online, makes me want to.  Is there a members fee - are you fairly confident that your identity/email is secure?  Is that the site I've heard people say, sometimes they tell you they don't have room for you to join right now?

Want to keep up the pace I had yesterday of getting rid of/filing the paper pile I've accumulated.  Need to clear out the file cabinet too, may do that this afternoon while watching TV instead of reading the library book I picked up.  Took care of a couple of business phone calls, so that's a plus.  Have one more written problem that needs to be taken care of, so will do that before I get up from the computer.

Hope everyone is keeping warm inside (except you, Pingo) today.  Cat Lady phoned to say she'll be away at Foxwoods for a couple of days, and that Harry has been at  her house mornings for breakfast.  She lured him into her breezeway yesterday, and he does a quick once around her house, but then is anxious for that door to be open so he can get out.

P.S.  She did get back to the house where she thought Harry might belong, and a young man told her no, and that he had not belonged to the previous owner either (a relative).  Said he is allergic to cats.  So evidently Harry has just landed on a deck where he feels comfortable to linger and lounge weather permitting.

I can't imagine being super anxious to run out of a warm house and back outside today!  Our neighbor's dog was huddled up on our bench where I have a wool blanket for Gracie in the sun, probably the warmest spot in his environment today...they leave him out.

TT- no member fee :) When it first started there was a waitlist to get an account, not sure if that is still the case. Your username can be anything you want, so its completely secure. There isnt any way for anyone to get your e-mail address or any other information. I have noticed lately there are some 'spam' type links, but those are rare. The only e-mails I receive from the site are when someone has pinned something I posted, but I think you can even edit that to not notify you. I have been on for over 7months now(?) and have never had an incident.

This weather is really just too cold for animals to be outdoors, unless you have a huskie. And even then, I think 8 degrees, they should be brought in or at the very least have a shelter.

Wrap your scarf around your face.  I did that this morning when I went out, over my nose/mouth/chin area.  Ended up coming in with a sinus headache over my eyebrow anyway.

    Re: January 2013

Not that I want to rub it in, but I think I selected the right week to go South. I like the cold weather, but hate it, when it is as cold as it is right now in Boston. I turned down the heat, when I left - to 64 - hope my plants survive. When it is that cold, it is hard to keep the temp up in the house due to the large windows.

Went out for lunch w/ DS. He took me to a seafood place and I had a delicious shrimp salad (more shrimps than additions) on half an avocado. Just hit the spot.

DIL and I are watching Downton Abbye, season 2 together after dinner, while DS is working a bit. He is not interested in it. Getting interesting. I am taping season 3 at home. Will watch that later.

Tmw. night, we are going to DIL's alumni cocktail party. She is the presitent of the alumny club here. Should be interesting. I used to work at the school from where she graduated.  Not that I expect to meet anyone from my time, but it will still be a bit nostalgic. Then Saturday, we are going to the Brahms thing. Looking forward to that too. It will be an evening of Gypsy Songs, whatever they are. The singer (forgot his name), who was the Phantom in POTO in NY for over 800 times, is the soloist. I have heard the symphony orchester here before, when we went to hear Andrea Bochelli, and they are great. I don't know, where the ballet comes in, but it should be a fun and interesting evening.

Oh Pingo wish I were there.  My annual trip to Florida is over a month away but I am holding on to the thought of that.

TT I think Thursday is supposed to be the coldest day so plan accordingly.

Kar, poor doggie being out in the cold - would your neighbors be receptive if you alerted them to the super cold predicted for Thurs?

JC sounds as if your MIL's seizure disorder must not be controllable - didn't you say she was in her 80s?  So has had this for 80 years?  Not all are controllable,.  Knew a guy once who just developed one and it could not be reliably controlled, his whole life was changed and blighted, really.

JC - sorry to hear about the drama!  You seem to handle everything so well!

Pingo - sounds like you are having a wonderful time!  Enjoy!

TT - I'm with you on not plunging into Pinterest.  Between BDC and Facebook, I don't want to spend more time on social networking, lol.  Not interested in Twitter either.

Jumped right back into work - crazy deadlines, workload, etc.  But it's okay.  My boss is really wonderful and it's nice to be back in the office.  I do like to be able to "dress up" again, see my friends, etc.  Do have to admit that I am wiped out at the end of the day though.

Had our first training session for the pups the other night.  It went well, and we are practicing.  They are doing pretty well.  Next session is Saturday.

Stay warm today everyone.  Feel so bad for DH (and everyone else) who has to work outside.  He never complains at all . . I couldn't do it!

    Good morning,

Woke up to a noise I couldn't identify - pulled up the shade and it was the guys working on the house on the corner - cutting siding!  In this cold?  One guy has been working most days alone, but today there are two.  The cold air gives a muted sound to the work being done.

Glad to hear the training for the dogs is going well, Princess.  If it was recommended to you, other people must be getting good results from it with their dogs.  And, good you are back in the work swing again.  People contact picks our spirits up, and as you say, so does "dressing up".

I haven't  really caught more than a glimpse of the weather forecasts, just know it's low numbers right through this week and next, with possibility of substantial snowfall sometime this week-end.  No plans on going out for me.  Plenty I can find to do in the house, and grocery-wise, it will force me to use up some of those containers in my freezer.  Took a mystery one out yesterday - baked beans!  Once I found what it was, took out a packet of deli sliced roast beef, and had a nice. albeit different supper of the beans, roast beef, cheese, and a leftover biscuit.  Brought back memories of a  pick up Sunday night supper when I was a kid.

Coffee is calling, and I've got to be on the vigil for any signs of Harry.  He's probably waiting down the street at their breezeway.  Everyone stay warm - I intend to.

I know.  The owners of the house must have gotten a good deal - giving the company work during the slow months.  They started on that addition and all it entails inside and out, a little before the work on my roof and stairs were started.  Not a big crew, just 2 guys usually.  It mainly was an enlargement of the kitchen, building that room outward.  I just stepped into the l.r. to catch the weather, and it is 18 here.  I would think that would be so dangerous working with power tools - what with either bulky gloves on, or the other scenario, frozen fingers trying to use the tools properly.

Hope your stuffy nose is just that and nothing more.  These mornings when I get up, my nose is stuffy, but clears up within an hour or so.  Think mine is more from the dry forced hot air heat.

ETA:  How did your son make out with the braces yesterday?  Hope he isn't getting discouraged.
