    Good morning!

Best I've been so far - seems healing is speeding up every day, not staying linear with the same amount of improvement every morning.  Good thing because it was slow going after that initial big change.  I am counting on being able to keep my appt this afternoon, yay!

Actually able to help DH get ready for work so sat on this awhile...apologies if I missed new posts in the meantime.

    what a great day :)

    That is good news!

And the weather is supposed to moderate soon too, so we'll all be able to catch up with things over the weekend when it may even get into the 50s!  The sidewalks around here have been covered with rivers of ice making walking a challenge.  It's to be hoped that the melting this weekend will find its way into catch basins!

    Re: January 2014

    Good morning,

Thought tomorrow was supposed to be a great day, but now I hear snow flurries.  Guess that means today is the day to run out for:  Haircut (hope she's working today), target for litter, then either S&S or Hannaford's for fresh fruits, eggs, oh I guess I have to hit S&S the birds like their birdseed.  And, of course, the bank for a supply of house cash.  Should go for fasting bloodwork tomorrow, have dr.'s appt. next Th or Fri.  Trying to give myself as many days as possible without sugar intake, so may wait until Monday.  I'm starving when I get up mornings, so it's hard for me.  Take myself out for a breakfast burrito at Arty's Diner on the way back.  Delicious.  G.T. says wait until Sat when it will be in the 50's, but I try not to hit the stores on Sats.  I have a gift basket to put together for someone having a procedure next week too, and would like to get that done so I'm not rushing around at the last minute before my visit.  Never did get a call into Swampscott friend to get together for lunch.  Maybe if I get things done today I'll see if she'd like to come here for lunch tomorrow - tho she can't stay too long because of allergies to Cheerio - who insists she'll be fine once she can get up into her lap!

Glad to hear you feel you are making progress, Kargiver.  If you told us the doctor's final diagnosis, i.e. Meniere's, I missed it.  What have they decided?  Was it the vertabrae out of position?  You've had such a long haul. Was hoping it would be an instant recovery - just wake up one morning with no more double vision or dizziness.

Well, will get around, look at my list and decide whether or not to head out - probably will wait until noon or after.  Glad I got the trash out ahead of time yesterday afternoon.

    Thanks :)

That will be good to get the ice off the sidewalks out there.  I fell pretty hard a number of times on icy sidewalks when I was in college in Boston.

Good morning. Happy to hear you are feeling better Kar. My DS auditions for the spring Musical today. It's some kids show called Dear Edwina, it's interesting to say the least. This weekend's weather will be perfect to take the lights off of the house.

    Good morning,

So happy to hear (see) you are doing a lot better, Kargiver. I am so happy for you.

Yesterday DH stopped at a red light wanting to turn left. Someone hit him at the rear - full force. The lady was on her phone!!!! After the accident, he was somehow ok, but this morning, he couldn't turn his neck. He could only see one way. Really scary. Going to doc this afternoon. Can we please get a ban on cellphone use while driving?
Now have to file papers and get involved with insurances. What a waste of time, just b/c someone was yacking on the phone.

Ready to leave for the office. So much to do before the end of the month. Hope you all have a good day.

I'm sure he probably has whiplash, Pingo.  What a shame that happened.  I thought using a hand held cell phone while driving had been banned in MA.  I agree with you, it should be.  Good that you are getting in to see the doctor right away.

    Re: January 2014

You are right, tt. There is a ban on cell phones while driving, but people still use them whenever they feel like it. The law is not being obeyed. Just ask your son.
DH will hopefully be fine eventually, but what an unnecessary headache to go through. Spend all morning doing paperwork in regard to the accident, and now he will lose all afternoon of work going to doc and x-rays, MRIs or whatever is prescribed.

More importantly, he's been injured and the healing of that will interrupt his usual way of going about things.

Thanks, everyone, for sharing the joy of my continuing recovery.

Pingo, that is terrible!  So sorry, poor Mr. Pingo; indeed he definitely has whiplash and may get worse before he gets better like with any sudden trauma.  The vision disturbance doesn't surprise me;  I've learned a lot about the neck/vision connection, as you can imagine.  Hoping he heals quickly.

Someone one the other end of the phone can't see there's a need to pause when the driver should shift their focus to a hazard.  So, the driver stays focused on what the person on the phone is saying (whereas a passenger would instinctively pause) instead of the danger at hand, and BAM!  I think all driver cell phone use, including hands-free, should be totally banned.  States with hands-free laws are, sadly, finding this out the hard way.

    Re: January 2014

I did call my friend so she wouldn't be holding today or tomorrow for me.  We decided I'd go over there next week after doctor's appt.  Should be just in time to go out for lunch.  Sadly, she has decided she can't come here any more.  Last time she said by the time she got home her eyes were swollen.  I do the best I can with wiping down of things before she comes, but it is impossible to touch every place Cheerio has been.  As long as friend doesn't put her hands to her eyes, she is alright, but she has always been an eye rubbing person.  Easier for her just for us to meet or me to go there.  That's pretty much what we were already doing anyway.

No decision here yet about going out.  We'll see.

Hi everyone, I haven't been able to post in a while. Christmas was difficult. My mother passed last Feb. ,so one of my sisters was hosting. Our holiday and birthday ,graduations, and anniversaries, wakes, First Communions, Confirmations,Military send offs is always at her home. Hi everyone, I have been checking in this morning to catch up. I haven't been able to post since the holidays because of families health issues. My mother was the host for family celebrations, Christmas, Easter, 4th of July, Memorial day, Christenings,First Communions, Confirmations,Wedding showers,Baby showers, graduations,Military. If there was nothing notable happening she would make up anything to celebrate. "Any of my grandaughters want to garden with me, and have lunch?" She passed on last winter, and my sister took on the hosting,at the same house. Because of the size of our family, its a controlled buffet for the main course an sides, everyone chooses ahead of time what tey're bringing. Appetizers and deserts- whatever you want to show off, bring it on!  Just before most of us were there, my sister had a cardiac event, had fainted, and the EMT's came. T.G. She's O.K. now,she spent a few days in the C.C.U., and is doing well. The food didn't go to waste as it was there for visitors etc.  That sister, and another one are celebrating birthdays at the end of the month, so  we'll give it a go again. I have a few hours free tomorrow, so I'll get up to speed with all of you. Oh, I dragged out the Christmas tree this morning, always bittersweet for me. Take Care, B.G.

    Dear BG,

oh dear, you are having what seems to be a perfect storm of troubles - I know you were hoping to get to 2014 without any more mishaps but it did not happen - in spades!  I am hoping that youe sister makes a quick recovery and you can celebrate at the end of the month.

PINGO:  I so agree that phone use should be banned.  Hope Mr. P heals well and quickly.

The other day I saw a woman driving, smoking and holding a phone to her ear.  Lethal.

Allergens are airborne and survive for months or even years by themselves, hence removing anything that can trap and hold the allergens (carpet, rugs, pillows) and cleaning regularly and thoroughly with Hepa filters and air purifier systems reduces risk.

I don't think it's a good idea for a person that is allergic to cats to spend any amount of time in a dwelling that inhabits cats, imo.

Ps: I should know, I am allergic to cats.  People assume that just because you tolerate the visit that everything is okay.  Often the person goes home and suffers from a variety of symptoms hours later that are related to the exposure.

Bg, what a year...so sorry for your losses.  It sounds like your family is able to go on in the joy of the memories despite missing those who have gone on.  Thankful your sis is ok after her scare.

I'm allergic to cats, and I can spend time in someone's house with a cat as long as I wash my hands right before I leave and don't touch my eyes in the meantime.  Allergic reactions are all different, and people who have them know what they can and are willing to deal with.

I have to agree with Gonetothedogs and Kar's comment. Everyone's tolerance is different and allergens are airborne.  If you just dusted etc dander etc can still be floating around.

Thank you ladies for your well wishes re Mr. P. Hopefully he will be ok. Will see, what the doc has to say this afternoon. I am sure, he will have to go through some testing. Just because, someone had to call home and tell someone, "I will be home in 10 minutes!"

9 -10  years ago, someone rear ended us on Commonwealth Ave, while we were stopped for a red light. We both got hurt. DH's hearing went, and my back got twisted. I am still suffering on and off. The damage to our car amounted to $7000 plus. Months of doc's visits, chiros and PTs. Plus the pain it was to deal w/ the insurances and lawyers. The medical bills, the car repair and car rental were paid for and I got a "huge" settlement in the amount of $3000.00 of which there were $219 left after our lawyer took her fees. Such a joke.

Yes, people often underestimate the damage a rear-end accident can have on one's spine which is substantial and lifelong.  I lost some hearing (tested by the ENT specialist just recently) with my C1 subluxation, but I think that has cleared.

that being said, I'm getting ready to go to my chiropractor, thankful I can drive.

Best to Mr. Pingo, again.  My heart goes out to him as I can relate so well to that injury. ETA: I've been hit 3 times.

Happy New Year (belated) to all, and Happy Belated Bday Kar.  Just caught up on January to see that BG and cricket are back!  Ill have to scan through the end of December to see what else I have missed.

Quite the snowy start to the new year, but thankfully DH isn't doing the plow route this year so he has been home to plow our driveway and the neighbors' (many are "up in years") and all of our parking spots since the city plows don't do such a great job. And best of all, he was able to drive me to and from work through the storms!

Ok-more catching up to do.  Resolving to check in and chat more often.  =)

Good morning.  Kar, glad to hear you are feeling better. BG, I hope 2014 is a happy and healthy year for you and your family.

So scary about your DH Pingo.  Cell phone usage actually isn't banned in MA, only texting while driving.  I have to admit that I am a frequent cell phone user while driving, but NEVER texting.  It's just so dangerous.  There is no way you can text and drive safely at the same time.  I agree though that the police don't even enforce that part of the law, so don't hold your breath for the cell phone banning.  Keep us posted on how DH is.
