    Re: November 2012

Coming back in and reading the posts, I guess I shouldn't say that son and DIL took me out to eat at the most delicious - Vinnies I think was the name, next to a Dunkin Donuts by the Avalon Motel on Route 1.  OMG, the food was delicious and huge servings.

GD and I had a good afternoon with our cookies and then played a couple of games of dominoes, each winning one game, so the tiebreaker will be when we make the gingerbread men for Christmas.  I'll make the big guys ahead of time and then she and I will do the smaller ones and she'll decorate with a red or green scarf.

She had fed Cheerio before we went out, so the cat is snoozing already on the top of the couch.  I've lost track of what day it is, Monday, I guess.  Sorry to hear Costco was a zoo, Pingo, I have to go up there tomorrow, keep an appt., and then come home and bake.

OK, think I'll change into comfy nightclothes and robe, and check the TV.  Cookie dishes, thank Heavens are already taken care of.  Chat tomorrow, if I have time.

How nice of your son and DIL to take you out for dinner, tt. What a nice and thoughtful surprise. Is this the same Vinnie's, that used to be in Libeerty Mall? It used to be on the left side of the main entrance. Have been there several times, and we miss it now, when we are too tired to go home and cook after shopping there. The food was excellent and huge portions. They would also serve family style if you were 6 or more people. Have to go and take a look at it. I don't know, where the Avelon Motel is on Rt. 1 and there are several DD's. Is it going North?
Re: Costco. I was there around noon time. I know you are an early bird, so maybe you can avoid the mayhem, if you get there early. Enjoy your evening!

    Re: November 2012

This is not a Vinnie Testa's, it's a family restaurant, a little hole in the wall, but excellent food.  It's on Route 1 going South, near the green dinosaur miniature golf, right before a burger king, I think it is.  You can't buy drinks there, but you can bring in bottles of wine, I think they charge $5 to do that?  I think that's what I heard my DIL say.  Be prepared to bring home doggie bags, because the portions would easily feed 2.  I had the chicken parm and it was the best I've had in years.  Son had a shrimp with linguine and it was HOT, I could even smell the spice.  DIL had meatballs and something, and we had an appetizer of tomato, mozzarella/ basil with oil that was delicious.  We had brought in a red and white wine.  Not in your neck of the woods, Pingo, but well worth a stop there if you like Italian - altho I heard a table next to us ordering haddock - not sure if that came with a sauce or if it was a regular baked haddock.

    Good morning,

Didn't expect to be up this early, but I've been lying awake off and on since 4:00, and was curious if Harry would be out there this early - he was, confirming my belief that he sleeps under the shrub.  Came out stretching as soon as he saw the kitchen light go on.  His coat has thickened up in anticipation of winter, and he's a healthy looking cat with his shiny fur.

Wish I didn't have to go out this morning, I could get a nice early start on things.

Icer, you don't have much to say - good to see your post, but how about adding a little more? How's Zach doing?  Don't you wish they'd give us back the picture option?  My guess is they never intend to.  Some people like me, probably abused it.

Might as well pull out my bills and write out a few checks with this extra time.  I'll check in later.

The picture option must be there be because in the SS birthday thread soemone, was it Amber? posted a photo of a cake.  My guess would be that we can no longer post personal photos, only those from a service like Shutterfly or Picaso or similar, or even Pinterest....where the photos are vetted somewhat for porn etc.  Or maybe it's cut and paste....just trying that....

Sorry Hats...good try though....as far as the picture thing goes...I think in the beginning I had to get a photobucket account and then you could put a link up...I guess if you really had something to share...one could change their profile picture.

I really have little to say lately, Mr. Zachary is doing well...He sits up with great ease now and I expect he will be crawling around any day now. He does make a bunch of sounds. My son has always spent Thanksgiving with his father's side of the family. They are vast in numbers and seeing as his(my son's) birthday is in November...they have always celebrated that with him then too.

I do have a little something up-coming. I guess Chef Ramsey came to a restaurant down here this past summer and did one of those revamping of the businesss episodes. Well, I get to certify the staff for their ServSafe course...should be interesting.

Good morning everyone. We'll have to check out that restaurant. I like a good Italian place.

So DS tells me yesterday that they have this really big project due on January 2nd. Winter break is probably one of the biggest travel weeks around. Every year he leaves the 26th or the 27th and goes to NY with his dad and doesn't come back until the day before school. With the homework that he gets on the weekend, I doubt he can finish the book, do the written part and then design and make with full clothes a life size 3D person. I've sent an email to the teacher, as I'm sure he can't be the only one that goes away. It looks like he won't be able to go this year, it's a shame, they do a big New Year's Eve party. Never did I have something like this over Winter break.

    Re: November 2012

That's a shame, Winter.  As you say, I doubt he's the only child who goes away over that holiday vacation.  Terrible planning on someone's part for such a project.  Do they actually have to make the clothes - could they use clothing premade and add embellishments to signify the period of time the story takes place?  Son and DIL were complaining last night over the amount of homework their kids get from OLA too.  GS is active in sports, 2 basketball leagues this Fall, and with practices and games he's up all hours trying to get homework done.  They sit in school all day, and need outside activity the sports give them.  BTW, measured himself against me yesterday, taller already!

I'm getting a kick out of his sister - 8 years old and she talks like an adult.  I was bemoaning the fact that I can't get to his games because I don't drive after dark, and she looked at me confidentially and said, "Well, I'll tell you something.  He does have some 1:00 games, but I doubt you'd want to drive to them.  His next one is in East Boston", said with a smile and a wink.  Her mother was talking about the new NH outlet she was going to, comparing it to Wrentham, and dau piped up and added, "Yes, that Wrentham Mall is spread out too far."  She cracks me up.  Evidently listens to Mom's conversations with gfs and is learning to join right in.  I told her she tickles my fancy.  She wasn't sure what that meant, but liked the sound of it!

    Re: November 2012

OMG TT she sounds so adorable.

ServSafe is a santiation class that I give...They(ServSafe people) ,for some reason, want to call it a "Food Manager's certification" but I find that folks don't seem to understand what it is all about until I say sanitation. It has been a requirement in Massachusetts since the year 2000. My town(for some reason) decided to go along with the State mandate in 2010. We were always supposed to do it.

Winter, I feel your pain...Break is supposed to be just that...a BREAK. My son has been out of high school for a very long time now, but I do remember one of his grade school teachers requiring that we go out and buy the old fashioned clothes pins for a Thanksgiving project...you know...the ones w/o the spring. They were impossible to find...AND..you onle needed 2. It was just rediculous.

It happened, my post got deleted.....all I said was that your sons picture was awesome, Icer.  BD cards still rolling in, 48 to date....wow!  Another nice day, a bit chilly but nice blue sky and sunny.  tt, the big green dinasour that you mention used to be a landmark for my girls when they were little and we were on our way to a eating place we used to take them to.  ss

She is awesome tt. You are right she must listen to her mom and friends talking. My son has the same issues as your GS. We didn't put him on the travel basketball team, because I knew with all the practices he would have a problem. My DS is almost taller then my mom, but she's 5.1".

For the prject you could use regular clothes, they just have to be in the time period of the historical fiction book the character is in. So we can use and customize them. It also needs a body with head, hair, etc. I'm taking him to the library tonight so he can get the book. Hopefully he starts reading it on the way to NY Thursday morning. He's not a reader, so this is a harder assignment for him.

Winter - as a some tiem teacher - if the teacher does not give you satisfaction, go to the guidance office or principal.  Say the words "father" "custody agreement" and "violation."  No child should have to miss time with a parent because of some silly teachers' misguided idea of what is reasonable for an 8th graders, for heaven's sake.

I did write the teacher and expalined that he does make this trip over New Years every year. It also is written in to the agreement, since I refused to let him be out of state for Christmas. I know others in the class go away as well. Sadly I don't believe the date will be changed. He'll either have NO free time before he goes or he won't be able to go. By the way, he's only in the 6th grade. Thanks Hats. The school doesn't have a guiadance counselor and I'm not sure going to the Principal will help. This teacher has apparantly been doing this assignment for years.

Icer, that stinks about the clothes pins, if that happens, I'll beg anther mom to share the cost of the bag at least.

I would do the assembling of the 3D person between now and Christmas and let him do the paper part of the report with his father.  Why take that time away from him and his father.

I woudn't take time away, but his father does not want him to do the project while they are away.  There are too many other children there and he knows that it wouldn't get done. By the way he sees his father all the time, it's just extended family on that side.

After the fact, we as a collective of parents went to the principal who agreed with us...it was rediculous for this teacher to require each of us to buy these out dated clothespins so that the kids could do a holiday craft...from that point on...if the teacher required such obscure items it was up to her/him to provide it...it made sense since we all had to buy 50 to do the assignment...She could have just bought one bag...But I guess we all do something that we think better of later....I know I have

I did ask one mom that usually travels home for Christmas and she's having the same problem. Project is too big to take with them, and with the amount of homework giving on weekends pretty tough to do beforehand. DS did pick a book out online last night and I will be taking him to the library to get it tonight.

Got it.  Well good luck on your decision.  If your son is in the 6th grade I would leave the responsibility on him to do what he has to do to finish "his" homework.  If he can't finish or doesn't then he can suffer the consequences:)

    Good morning,
Cold but nice and sunny out. I got a chuckle out of your GD, tt. She is quite a little lady. Definitely overheard her mom talking. We will have to find that restaurant. I believe we have been there, when it had another name.
Winter, I got a bit angry reading about your son's project. A life size person? Where do you get a doll like that? If you don't use a doll, you need to stuff out the clothing and make or find a head. Sounds to me it is going to be an expensive deal. And IMO, it is not even educational. Dressing up a doll, that is for 5 year olds. Maybe you can use some of the TG days to start the project, so he can finish it before he goes with his father to NY. You and he can set a deadline to have it done before Christmas, that way you can injoy the Christmas holidays. What is the name of the book?
How is Gracie doing, Kar? Will she be able to stay be herself, when you leave for TG? I lost 2 lbs. btw. That Loseit is awesome.
Ready for the office. You all have a nice day.
