Good mornin all, can't believe I'm the first.....glad to hear your OK amber, we.re all waiting for you to post.  Little cool this AM...guess summer is on her way out, wish she would go a little slower tho, hate when, Bang spring is here!!  Know it is warmer where you are Winter, and altho your working, know you will have a good time. How nice to be able to travel at the co's expense, I didn't realize what a good thing it was when I had it.  Take care all and have a nice day. ss

Go back to page 7, SS, Kargiver and then me beat you in this morning!

Had a nice bowl of hot hot oatmeal and now a good strong cup of coffee to get me going and out the door.  I'll check in later.

SS, maybe another cup of coffee?  Unfortunately, it's not Spring that's in the air, lol. ;)

Speaking of freezing, it's only 64 in here, and my fingers are numb.  Gasp, I wish I could start a little fire, but alas there's no wood and besides, it would get it too hot really fast.  So, I'll be making a second pot of something hot to drink...

    Re: September 2012

    Good morning,
Yes, fall is definitely here. Was 52 here when I got up. But 37, Kar? Do you still have produce in the ground, you have to worry about? Canned jeans - never heard of them - LOL. Seriously, you must be so happy with all the canned stuff, that will supply you long into the winter. I can imagine the sweat it must have taken to snip and prepare 10 lbs. of beans. Lately I have resorted to buy the beans in the packets, that are ready to go. More expensive, I know, but I found, the quality is better than the bin ones. There is no waste either.
Yes tt, I have been working long hours lately, but we have a deadline. We did hire a help for me, and she is very good. Pleasant, eager to learn and grasps fast. But I have to train her, and that takes time. Eventually, she will be able to work on her own. Besides our office has picked up lot of work lately, which means a lot more work keeping the books in order.
I am having a heck of a time getting to the Forums at my office. I truly believe, those pesky ads are to blame, even though Dottie do not think so. If it indeed is the ads, there is an easy solution. Install an ad-blocker. One can download it for free. It solves two purposes. Getting in to the forums, and no more pop-up ads.
Have a good day all. Stay warm - Pingo

    Re: September 2012

Lol, there's something wrong with autocorrect on bdc's end re the iPad; it changes and joins words to create gibberish so often it's hard to keep up with, but Dottie is aware of the problem so hopefully it will be fixed soon.  You wouldn't be able to even guess what I was trying to say if I didn't notice end fix most of its autocorrect disasters!

We had 10 pints oBrennan's.  Yes, that's how it corrected "of beans" when I back spaced to correct the s.  Anyway, it was ony 5 lbs that I had to prepare, thankfully.  The garden mainly just has the Fall vegetables that are happy enough until the first hard frost. In fact, the cold makes root vegetables sweeter and helpsa winter squash ripen.

They can't take the ads off the page; it's why the forums are free.  However, the fact that the ad photo displays instead of the page you ask for is not the fault of the ad, it's a problem with bdc's link loading software.  Seems they've fixed that particular problem.  Log in is still messed up in a number of ways.  The ads themselves used to be the problem with the ads.

Aunt and uncle will be returning and staying two nights!  Maybe three!  We're so psyched since dh will be home late from work Wednesday so would essentially miss them if that were the only night they would be here.

Off to errands...hope it warmed up...

    Re: September 2012

Oh, I know it is not the ads that is the problem. It is the combined ad and forum software, that have us running around in loops.
That is so nice your aunt and uncle will be able to stay over for a few days. Are you still having another overnight guest tonight? I remember those days (and not with glee) when the guest sheets were always in the laundry. Fortunately for me, extended family (sisters, brothers and cousins to in-laws) and friends have gotten up in age and don't travel as much any more. Our immediate family still comes once or twice a year, which is nice.
Well, I am off to the office. Probably won't hear from me, until I get back home tonight.
    - Pingo

PS. Does anyone realize it is 9/11 today? I shudder thinking of what was happening that day - just about now. God Bless!

Not sure about tonight, but I'm up for whatever.  The room will be ready for whomever is next. :) I wouldn't want it this way all the time, but we're enjoying the company.  Our family is pretty easy going despite dietary needs...not pushy or demanding.

have a good day at the office, Pingo, hopefully it won't be such a late night.

Off I go to the store.  Bye forwow!  That was "for now" after I corrected the w.

    Later,

This chuckle just came in my e-mail:

    GETTING OLDER

    A distraught senior citizen

    phoned her doctor's office.

"Is it true," she wanted to know,
    "that the medication

you prescribed has to be taken

for the rest of my life?"

"'Yes, I'm afraid so,"' the doctor told her.

There was a moment of silence

    before the senior lady replied,

    "I'm wondering, then,

just how serious is my condition

    because this prescription is marked

    'NO REFILLS'.."

    Have a good day!

Problem with being able to get in to thread again.  Get as far as September 2012, click and up comes a page with all the BDC headings, but the page is blank save for whatever ad chooses to come up on the blank page.  Tired of it all, in and out, logged in and out, in and out of Chrome and IE - whole set up stinks.

Cute, Pingo.  Oh, and yes, I've been thinking about it being 9/11...hard to miss for anyone who lived through it.  Tough to imagine there are kids in sixth grade who may not have been born yet when it happened.

Gorgeous day, happy to have errands to run and enjoy the sun and crisp air.  I've got a few things to do first, but then will walk Gracie.  Got some pork chops at a local farm for tomorrow's dinner.  Haven't planned much aside from that for aunt and uncle.  I'll be searing them on the stove and finishing in the oven. Serving with wild saffron rice and Brussels sprouts from the garden.

    Re: September 2012

Back home - early for once. Had to put on my little personal heater in my office for an hour this morning. My hands were blue; I couldn't type. Too early to start the heat. As soon as the sun hits the windows, it gets too hot anyway.
Sorry you are having such a tough time posting, tt. That's me in my office. Getting a run around - literarely. They keep looping me. Now I try just once. Mostly to see if there is an improvement. If I see the same mess, I leave it alone. It shouldn't be, one has to click thousands times in order to get, where one wants to be. Anxious to know when mm and Winter gets back, if they will have the same problems. Just hope the Chat won't die. That would be a real shame.
Pork chops and homegrown brussel sprouts sounds good to me, Kar. How do you cook the sprouts? I once saw someone on the TV cut them in half or slice them and then lightly sautee them with shallots and garlic. I have never tried it, but according to the TV chef (forgot who it was), they should be sweet that way, and ones dislike for them will disappear. Hm! Me think I will try it in the near future. DH likes them and order them outside, whenever they are available. Me not so much. Probably the reason I haven't made them. I remember those grayish green boiled small balls, mushy and stinking and tasting like bad cabbage from my childhood. Do you marrinate the chops in buttermilk?
I am making chicken pot pie from leftover Costco chicken tonight. DH loves it and have me buy the rotissery chicken for just that.
Have a good evening everyone - Pingo

    Re: September 2012

Sautéing Brussels sprouts until they carmelize a little by not moving them around the pan does make them sweet and reduces bitterness, but one has to be careful with that method to ensure doneness.  They carmelize on the cut side long before they are soft enough to be palatable.  So, if you try it, steam the halves first for 10 minutes, then sauté them with the garlic and shallots on low heat until they are just turning brown being careful not to scorch the garlic in the process or any bitterness you cook out of the sprouts will be added back by the burned garlic.  I don't fuss that much because we all love them plain.  I cut a cross hatch in the stem (where it was attached to the stalk) and steam them until fork tender.  Add a little butter (and balsamic vinegar if you're so inclined) and voila.  You'd probably like them that way, too - your mom apparently boiled them to death...who'd like them that way?!

I usually marinate the pork chops in buttermilk, but I probably won't have time since they are frozen rock solid right now.  If they are thawed by morning I will.

Chicken pot pie with rotisserie chicken sounds divine.  I just got back from a walk withGracie, yes, in the dark (whoops), and I'm starved. Dh working late tonight...

    Re: September 2012

Good morning. :)  Another cool, crisp one...39 when we got up.  Guess we won't need the A/C when my aunt and uncle arrive today.  It was so humid last Friday, and so begins the roller coaster of the NE Fall weather.

Picking our first butternut squash today to make the Martha Stewart (Everyday Food) roasted butternut chicken soup for lunch or dinner.  Not sure when they plan to arrive, but they are staying 3 hours away so it could easily be lunch.  His physical condition makes planning even a day in advance difficult if not impossible.  No worries for me, though, they are not expecting more of me than I can do and are happy with "whatever."  However, I'll have the soup ready for noon, and then if we have to heat it up for a meal, no big deal.

Would like to get Gracie walked this morning so that's out of the way.  And, of course, need to tidy up and make their bed.  Our potential house guest didn't come.

Poor DH got home at 9:45 last night and was out the door at 6:30 this morning.  BIG meeting today, and he'll be late, again.  At least aunt and uncle are business people and understand compleetely.  As you can imagine, Dr. Aunt has had MANY late nights at her chiropractic office.

Have a glorious day, everyone; I won't be around much online for the next few days, but you're always close in heart.

    Later,
    ~kar

    Good morning from work!

Ok, ladies, I got in. This is how I did it with help from Dottie:
    1. Go to Boston Globe
    2. Click on Lifestyle
    3. Click on Forums
    4. Log in (make sure your profile shows)
    5. Click on Tools.
    6. Click on "Clear Recent History"
    7. In the box that comes up there should be an "Everything" in the "Time Range to Clear"
    8. Under "Details" click on 3 things only: "Browsing and Down Load", "Form and Search",      "Cashe".  Don't click off "Cookies".
    9. Click "Clear now", and you should be in the Forums.

After this, I could get in both through Lifestyle as well as my bookmark. Maybe we have to login once a day. Will see tmw. Hope this helps.

    Re: September 2012

Hope everybody is well.  I've had a heck of  a time trying to get on here.  Same problems that others  have mentioned.  All is well on my end.  I see that kar had contact with amber (I think I read that at some point)  and that is good news.  After my August and Labor Day vacation, I've had a lot of catching up to do at the office.  pingo, glad to read you have a new hire and she's good.  That made all the difference for me this summer.

Tonight's menu is swordfish.  I rub it with olive oil, salt and pepper, and place it on a bed of sliced tomatoes, eggplant, onion and fresh corn cut off the cob.  Bake at 425 for 30 minutes.  Delicious.  Given the bounty at the farmers market, I've been having it a couple times a week.  Used striped bass when I could get it - also monkfish.  I want to try it with halibut, but it's so expensive.  I have  a great fish market in my neighborhood.

I expect to be around this weekend.  I may ask my GS if he wants to have lunch.  I've been hesitant to call, although I sent an email checking in.  Don't want him to feel smothered or obligated.  My DIL told me he loves his dorm and classes.

    Have a great night everybody.

    Re: September 2012

    Good morning,

Got to posting box first try this morning, so will give it a shot.

Wonderful day yesterday shopping for little Lilly.  If only we could post pics!  Got her a great outfit, a fuzzy toy, plus I already had her book - everything was on sale, plus I had a $10 gift card and got an additional 30% for opening a charge.  You would not believe how little I spent for quality items.  Anyway, I was pleased as punch - only wish I were going to see her on her b'day, but they will all be down in a couple of weeks for a lasagna dinner.

So good GS is enjoying dorm life, mm.  They either do or they don't.  I'm sure he'd love lunch with his Grandma about this time.  He's probably bursting at the seams to tell you about this new life and sense of freedom.

Slept late this morning, trash has to go out, but I'm not dressed yet, hoping the trashmen are running a little late too.  Definitely have to do some baking this morning.  My breakfast was a banana and a cup of coffee!  Had oatmeal the past 2 mornings and that didn't appeal to me this morning.  Haven't made the scones for a couple of weeks, so guess it will be that.

Had a call from my friend who had all the back surgery - checking to see if I was alright - just said she had had a dream about me - didn't say WHAT, and I didn't ask - but whatever it was, it prompted her to call and be sure nothing was wrong.  All the surgery she has had and still have pain/numbness in feet and legs.  Yet another specialist recommended to her in one of the Boston hospitals.  She said she'll have any non invasive testing he wants to do, but that's it.

As I type it's double spacing, so don't know how it's going to print when I post, but we can't get in to fix, so you'll have to bear with me.

Winter, how was your trip?  There may already be a post from you when mine comes up.  I probably won't try to get in again today.  Won't press my luck.  Once a day is enough to forge through the maze BDC has become.  Take care all.

    Good morning,
Good to see your post, tt. Missed you yesterday. You know, what that means. But these days with the "maze", as you so perfectly call it - I decided, you probably had a heck of a time getting on the boards. Sounds like you are all set for Lilly's birthday. You, the bargain hunter deserves a good break for your efforts.
Winter, you must be on your way home now. Hope you and DH had a nice trip. Happy birthday to DS. Good you will be home to celebrate with him. You will have a lot of "fun" trying to get on the forums. It's the pits these days.
Nice to hear from you, mm. Your swordfish dinners sounds delicious. We don't care much for swordfish, but I will try it. Maybe I just didn't cook it right.
Your guests must be at your house now, Kar. Any exciting plans while they are here? Enjoy their visit.
Just another day of work. Slowly catching up, so I will be under much less pressure. To have good help is good. I probably won't be able to get on the Forums from work, so for now have a good day all - Pingo

PS. I also get double space (and tripple and quadruble etc. as I go along). Try "shift - return".
