    Veteran's Day Poem 2011

    Today is Veteran's Day
    I thought I'd write a poem
Cause I have a mind to say
Whether you're abroad or at home
A Vet is Special, a hero, Our Best
So Thank you I say...This is my quest

Iver, what a great poem.  My dad was a Korean Vet.  He will be gone 7 years Monday, I can't beleive it's been that long.  I miss him everyday.

On Channel 6 (fox 25) news this morning there was an interview with a WWll vet who was a member of the ski patrol ousting the Germans from the mountains.  It was so interesting with a lot of pics - made me think of the James Bond movie that had the ski patrols.  He was very articulate and it was a piece well done.

    Re: Veteran's Day Poem 2011

Thank you Icer for such a nice poem. Lovely tribute to our heroes.

San Antonio - where our son lives - has a huge army base. Whenever we visit, we meet so many "heroes" at the airport. While waiting at the gate, my husband often engage in a conversation with them. Oh, the stories they tell. And they are all so young.
One time, our late afternoon flight was cancelled, and we could not connect with our flight from Houston. So we called our son to come and pick us up to try again the next day. But these 6 guys had no one to pick them up, but had to wait at the airport. We bought them all dinner.
Another time, we had boarded in Houston - but was waiting and waiting for take off for our last leg to SA. Then the captain's voice in the loud speaker, "Sorry for the inconvenience, but we are waiting for some very special people." Finally, after 45 minutes of wait, 10 soldiers showed up - coming back from the battle fields. They got a standing ovation and no one minded the wait.
Our office is open today. Our staff wants it that way, so they can take off the day after TG. But whenever we do have an employee, that is a veteran - we certainly honor them and close the office. - Pingo

    Re: Veteran's Day Poem 2011

My grandfather was on a mine sweeper in WWII.  He showed me a photo once and that was it.  I wish I knew more about his experience, but he never wanted to talk about it.
