    What Happened to Pingo?

Dear friends, I am sure you all must have been wondering, what happened to me. If you can recall, in one of my last posts I was mentioning calling my doctor. The bump I had gotten in Logan had turned into something dreadful and I was running a high temp. Without hesitating my doc told me to go straight to the ER. "From what you describe, they have all the facilities and can treat you a lot better than I can".
So off we went to ER. Best advice ever. In the meantime the infection spread like wildfire and my leg swelled to double its size - while ER was pumping mega doses of Penicillin in me. It was very frightening.
They decided to keep me overnight at the hospital for observation. I stayed there until last night.
The second day I was there, a huge pocket (the size of a half small orange, not kidding) developed on top of my leg. Mr. Pingo called our friend, who practise at the same hospital. He came right over and it was decided to drain the thing - which he did right there and then. I won't go into the gory details - but it was a good thing. A culture was taken- and when the result came back, they stopped the Penicillin and switch to two other antibiotics. One of them a real nasty one, that burned in my veins. Further testing was underway and Sunday afternoon, they found the exact antibiotics, that would work for me. The pharmacy made them up and starting those, it sped up things.
It was a frightening ordeal. (At one point, I thought I would loose my leg). But I have to say, I could not have gotten better care. I feel very, very lucky. I am now at home and on the mend, even thought there is some ways to go. I have been taught how to change my dressings and I am now on oral antibiotics.
How could all this have happened? Well, according to the infectious decease doc - even though there was no break in the skin, the impact could just have scraped enough top skin cell off - so the bacteria could get inside. It had then been sitting there brewing for a week until it finally stuck out its ugly head. So ladies and gentlemen, don' t ever think a bruise is "nothing".
Imagine that - going on vacation and ending up 6 days in the hospital? I for one would never have dreamt of that.

    Re: What Happened to Pingo?

"Where is she?", they all wondered,
She would not leave us hanging,
    to worry what had happened
with her leg that took a banging.

For days they kept a vigil
    each checking  C.C.'s thread -
at different hours through the day -
    "No word?" caused increased dread.

    We see ourselves as penpals,
with our daily news and chatter,
but a bond that's strong and loving rises,
    when something is the matter.

    A strong and solid friendship
had grown with her and others.
    Her kind and helpful manner
    treating all like fellow brothers.

At last a post was sighted,
    Our Pingo's back on board.
And life goes on within our Chat
    Back on a happy chord.

We missed you, Pingo.  So glad to have you back.

My dear trumpet - I am moved to tears. Thanks for such a lovely poem. I feel so humble - since I know you broke your own promise - never to publish your poems again on the Chat. What a special friend you are. Really!
I have been out all day visiting doctors and came in just soaked. Then this wonderful greeting was waiting for me - thanks my dear friend. Lifted my spirit.
Things are going well according to the learned. Going again tomorrow for some more blood work and another round of specialists.
Thanks again my dear friend. - Pingo

Hello all my dear Chat friends,
Thanks to you all for you thoughts and concerns. I knew you were all worried and I felt so bad, that I could not let you know, what happened. Never in a million years did I expect to be admitted. But it was necessary the way things turned out. Mr. Pingo offered to bring in his lap top, so I could send you a message - but truly, I was not up to looking at a computer screen.
However, I knew you were all thinking of me and wishing me well - I could just feel it. What a great bunch of friends you are. Love you all - Pingo

    Hi Pingo,

Getting ready to shut my computer off for the night, but just wanted to wish you a good night's sleep - in your own bed.  I know it will be difficult to get and stay in a comfortable position with no pressure on your leg, but it's sure got to beat those hospital beds.

We're so glad to have you back.  Don't rush the process - do as the doctors say, probably to stay off of it as much as possible.  You gave us all a scare, as I'm sure you did Mr. P.  I'm sure there will be friends and neighbors popping in to give you a little TLC.  Know that we are sending loving, healing thoughts from these boards.

    Talk to you tomorrow.

    Re: What Happened to Pingo?

    Good morning tt,
Your wishes came through - I slept through the night! Thanks, my dear friend. Haven't done that in such a long time.
Things are steadily improving. Still a lot of pain - or I should say discomfort - when I let my leg "hang down" - meaning standing or sitting with my leg down. I have boxes placed strategically everywhere,  so I can elevate my leg whenever, wherever. Right now, my foot is hanging in my bookshelf. Haha!
Have an appointment with yet another doc this morning. One thing, that surfaced during my hosp. visit is - that I am very low on B12 vitamin. So now, I am being treated for that. I think, I had the best ever physical during this past week.
Good news. Young son is coming home tonight ---so looking forward to it. He ordered Tacos - so I have to somehow manage to do them for him. Not a difficult task though. With the conditions on hand, he said not to worry, but I want to do them - just for him.
It is pouring again. Hope you will have a nice day. Will talk to you later. Love - Pingo

    Good morning, Pingo

A visit from your son will certainly speed up the healing process.  It's so good just to have them around, isn't it?  I completely understand your wanting to make one of his favorites regardless of circumstances - once a mother, always a mother!

Hope your dr.'s appt. this morning is scheduled during one of the lighter rain periods.  It just won't quit.  I've taken out what I think is a soup (didn't label it) from the freezer for supper.  I can see sliced carrots and chicken in what looks like a tomato with juice base.  Think I'll pull out a frozen loaf of bread dough too, and bake that up to go along with.  BTW, what I thought was quiche for last night's supper, turned out to be spinach pie in filo dough - even better!  Love these little freezer surprises!

    Have a good day.

Pingo, Dear!  What a horrible ordeal!  We did miss you (I don't usually check this section, though).  I never knew you could get an infection from just a bruise.  Thank God you are doing better and got the immediate care that not only saved your leg but probably your life, too.  My dad got a terrible staph infection that sounded like that.  He was recovering from knee surgery and almost died.

Glad to have you back.  There's a lot going on in Weddings with LuvRIboy, preserves, and Brighton getting married on 7/11.

    Best in your continued recovery.

Hello my dear friend KAR. Thank you so much for your well wishes. I haven' t had a chance to check the wedding sites yet. I know a lot must be going on  - and I certainly wish all the new brides a wonderful wedding day and a happy life ever after.
Right now my life are centered on getting my leg better. And it is - slowly. Just came back from the doc and he is pleased. But the blood test will tell. All the "poison" they pumped into me, did havoc with my kidneys - so we are watching them.
Thanks again. You and your family have a happy 4th. My 4th will be on TV. I just love the Esplanade and the 12th and the canons. When I lived in Boston, I used to go there, spreading out a blanket and have a picnic there. (Listening to Arthur Fiedler). Can' t do that any more. So sad how things have changed.

    Hi pingo

So happy you are feeling better and it sounds like they are taking very good care of you~ know it will be wonderful to see your son.  Enjoy those tacos and ask for help when you need it.

I hope the weather changes so people can enjoy the 4th.  We are all going to my son's house for a cookout or cookin depending and then catch the fireworks.

    Good to have you back.

Pingo, you are in my prayers and welcome, you know that.

My 4th will be on TV, too, but for a much more fun reason.  We got a puppy!  If you have interest and energy, see Pets thread I started so I don't hijack this one.  DH is going to his family's annual 4th celebration over the weekend, but will be home with me tomorrow (we usually leave on Friday for the big party).  The puppy is only 9 weeks old and not remotely able to travel or be left with anyone yet.

Take care and rest.  Drink plenty of water to help out your struggling detox system...what am I telling you that for, I'm sure you know.  I'm a helper, that's what I do. ;)

    Keep us posted.

    ~kar

P.S.  tt, your poem made me tear up - very sweet and well composed.

My dear friend tt, I am choking! I knew this poem was something very special - and I loved it. Something special from a very dear friend to another friend. For you to break a promise to yourself - say something about a friendship, that has come by through these pages. I feel humble and honored at the same time. tt, you are so talented, but this poem was just for me --- and that make it so much more special. Thanks again my dear, precious friend - Pingo
