What to give for a male's 80th birthday?

We are going to our son's FIL's 80th birthday. What to bring as a gift?
We are the kind of people that cannot attend w/o bringing something. A charity gift is out of the question. He donates tons every year to charities that request it.
    Please help - Pingo

Two tickets to a theater production or sports event he would really like to see?
    Off the top of my head - I'll keep thinking - - - - -

    A hot air balloon ride?

    Hi Pingo
My FMIL had an 80th birthday a couple of years ago and she got alot of gift cards to restaurants.  She got some to Walgreens and supermarkets.

Love the hot air balloon ride idea!  He sounds hardy enough for it.

    On the more pedestrian side:

A gift card to Barnes/Noble or Borderbooks

If he lives near a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods he might like a gift card

    Lottery tickets

If he enjoys a nip now and then, a bottle of his favorite booze, wine, or a case of his favorite brew.

A subscription to a magazine or newspaper that fits his interests

If he enjoys good coffee, a few pounds of high-end kona (can be purchased at Trader Joe's or Whole Foods:)

Thanks to all of you for your ideas!
We did end up giving him a bottle of V.S.O.P cognac. He loves cognac, we found out. Receiving it he said, "This is one you and I will share." Even though it will take months in between, I believe he meant, what he said.
The birthday party went well. (Read elsewhere).
We had a chance to celebrate his real birthday with him the day before the big party.
The guy looks like he is 65 - not one day older. Wish I could say the same, when I get 80 years old.

Pingo, glad your gift was a success - I couldn't think of a thing.  You'll be as spry as ever at 80, I have no doubt.
