Yes, especially if it involves going away with or visiting family!

Definitely.  And, agreed, a vacation spent visiting family isn't exactly as relaxing as a week in Aruba.  But, even after our honeymoon in Aruba (1 week), we spent another week at home to rest up from traveling and enjoy just being together with no itinerary or things other than our yard to see.

Absolutely! Going away with extended family is stressful (at least our family). Also driving vacation, where you don't stay at the same place during your trip, but go from place to place, living in a suit case packing and unpacking.
I always recommend to come back a couple of days earlier, before going back to work. That gives you time to rest and get rid of jetlag if any. Plus you can get the laundry squared away and fill your refrigerator up again - so when you start work, you are more or less back to normal. - Pingo

Great advice, Pingo.  So many people schedule vacation right up to the last hour before they have to go to bed before work, and then that first week back is terrible and exhausting.  What's the point of vacation if you ruin the relaxing effect the second you return?  Get back a couple of days earlier than you have to, catch up, and then resume your routine.

Kar, as a frequent traveller, I have been there - done that many times. It is simply not worth those two extra days of vacation, when you go back to work, tired and feeling out of place. Piles of laundry to work yourself through during the coming week, no food in the refrigerator etc., all your house plants need some TLC and so does your garden - unless you have had someone nice enough to water it, while you were gone. Loads of mail has piled up, which you must go through.
Of course, there are times, when it is just not possible to do so. But if it at all is possible, it is certainly worth it. - Pingo

ETA: And then there are flight cancellations, which happens all the time during the winter months. Being stuck in a lousy airport, when you should be on your way back, as you have to start work tmw., definitely put your stress level to test.
