OT - What's your OTHER favorite website?

Thanks to your suggestions about my GPS question, I just discovered Yelp.

It made me realize that there are a bazillion websites out there just waiting to be discovered.

What are some of your other favorites?  For any reason - reviews, chats, bargains.

Besides, WC that is (Weddings in Crazytown, a/k/a weddingchannel.com)

    http://www.tripadvisor.com

It is awesome. You can look up pretty much any hotel, restaurant, etc in the world, and real people review them. They post pictures and videos, as well.

I have found many hotels to stay in from this website!

For pretty pictures (but it does get annoying because the blogger only uses a white "ink" regardless of the picture some it can sometimes be hard to read what she puts on her pictures) This is a visual and not a wordy blog

    For creative stuff
    http://decor8blog.com/

And for fun...Craig's list for looking for bargains on household stuff.  I am in search of a good condition wing back chair and possibly a runner for our hallway.  I am very amused as I browse the listings.

I go to Amazon for product reviews on everything under the sun from books to pet food.  So many people shop through there that just about everything has at least 2 reviews.

I also go there to find out fair market value for things I can otherwise get at the pet store, for instance.  Sometimes it's cheaper to have it shipped to my house than to drive to go get something.

I just looked at the WalMart website for like 10 minutes with my mouth open. I mean...what? Like...who are these people? Are there really people like that in Arkansas, West Virginia, Texas??? What is wrong with people?!

www.nytimes.com is my favorite for news

For fun I stop by www.salon.com and www.slate.com for online magazine-type reading.

    For cooking: blog.fatfreevegan.com, www.veganyumyum.com, and www.epicurious.com.

    http://www.quilterscache.com/QuiltBlocksGalore.html

whether you reference by page- multiple pages of 12-14 per year, for ? 8 years, I forget -  or by name. clear patterns.

Very easy to use scanning your own materials into MS Paint or using any fabric manufacturer site or dream fabric site like www.equilter.com .  Just draw block outlines according to pattern, or save complete files or work from template pages.   Fill in your chosen fabrics, get a mock up of how they look if you position blocks differently  substitute fabrics.

You can do everything quilting software can, with the simplest graphics available.  The plus- doing it yourself in Paint or similar , you learn a heck of a lot, develop a good eye - which does not happen using programs other people  design.

Twitter has grown on me, though I am mostly a follower, not a tweeter. I save all my wisdom and links for my Facebook status, for some reason. I also follow shitmydadsays. Another favorite is blazedandconfused, who tweets absurd lines from Harlequin Blaze novels.

Here's an abbreviated list of my bookmarks:

http://www.questionablecontent.net (worth reading the whole archive, great story web comic)
    http://www.scarygoround.com (ditto)
http://www.dieselsweeties.com (webcomic as well, but not story-driven)
http://www.harkavagrant.com (webcomic of mostly historic and literary figures)
    http://dearauthor.com (romance reviews and commentary)
    http://www.smartbitchestrashybooks.com  (snarky romance commentary, reviews)
    http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com (self-explanatory, causes scream laughter)
    http://failblog.org (ditto)
    http://ugliesttattoos.com (ditto)
http://www.goodreads.com (my bookshelves, let me show you them)
    http://www.pandora.com (internet radio)
    http://lifehacker.com (shortcuts for life)

I visit a lot more, but these are the ones with the most general interest. Enjoy!

Re: OT - What's your OTHER favorite website?

I still go over to the Miss Manners board on MSN.  But I really need to stop because there are people on there with some really serious problems and some of it is a little scary.  Yesterday a pretty regular poster came on to tell everyone about how she is depressed and she always thinks about driving her car off a bridge, but is too chicken, though she thinks death would be a pretty peaceful, much better state than she is in now.  There was the usual "Um, I think you need professional help, honey" and of course the few arm chair diagnostics, as well as a a couple of people who knew just how she felt!  Then she came back later to tell us that after getting her hair cut and playing with the neighbor's dog and being in the sunshine, she felt better and was going to discuss this with her doctor at her next check up (which I could only hope was today!).

Lots of people with seriously dysfunctional families, terrible marriages, and problematic children.  Some of it is quite painful to read.  With some of them, you know the poster is probably the one with the problem, but if you ever say that heaven help you.  And they do get plenty of validation from people in equally crazy situations.

The board itself has an odd dynamic, with all sorts of cliques and bitter clashes going on between regular posters.   I honestly think if some of these people met each other on the street they would run in the other direction!

Things sometimes get political.  Yesterday there was a post about Rush Limbaugh owning the St. Louis Rams and if he is or isn't a racist and there are currently several discussions about health care reform.

Its like a bad car wreck.  I can't help but watch.

If you don't already know, you can use Ping.fm
It cross-posts everything to Facebook, Twitter and Blogger. Saves me some time.
