    Reception Songs

My wedding is 2 1/2 weeks away and we have only come up with our first dance song.  My brain is fried and I can't get the creative juices flowing.  Soooooo, perhaps if everyone shares the music they had/will have for the entrance, cake cutting, last dance, etc. it may help me get the wheels turning.

    Thanks!

    Re: Reception Songs

Here is our list, and don't judge me for some of my incredibly cheesy choices!  LOL!

Parents/Bridal Party entrance:  "Nothin But a Good Time" by Poison
Our entrance:  "Runnin With the Devil" by Van Halen (FI is a huge VH fan)
Cake cutting:  "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch) by the Four Tops
Last Dance:  "Let's Stay Together" by Al Green

hahaha, KMT...Every time I hear that Poison song I think of the show Rock of Love! Singe Ladies by Beyonce is a big one nowadays for the bouquet toss. I want my bridal party to come in to Poker Face by Lady Gaga...that song gets me SOO pumped up!

    ok....

so our bridal party will walk to my brother's drum solo in his rendition of 'strange fruit." I think its fantastic, if you look up "The Sundresses" on iTunes that is my bro's band. He does thiis awesome drum/piano solo for that song.

Our first dance is After All, Peter cetera and cher.

Last Dance is "Use Somebody" by Kings of Leon

I think the cake cutting song will be "true blue" by madonna

Well FI and I looooove watching Rock of Love, so I guess it's fitting, haha!  I was going to use Single Ladies for the bouquet toss, but we ended up deciding not to bother doing it.

Yeah, I want to keep my bouquet, and since you aren't going on your HM for awhile after you can enjoy it. I might get mine preserved if it isn't too expensive. They make little bouquets for throwing, but seriously all my friends will be married by then... I am literally the last one to jump, so who would catch it? My niece?? Rock of Love is HILARIOUS!!! I only watched the first season though...I loved Heather!

-Entrance Song: Never picked one and honestly couldn't tell you what the DJ choose
-Cake Cutting: Again, never picked one and the DJ went with "the bride cuts the cake" regret not choosing something...but it wasn't important to me when we were choosing things
-Father/Daughter- My daughter is a bride (dad's choice)
-Mother/Son- Simple Man by Shinedown (a little untraditional but fitting)
-Last Dance: Let's stay together Al Green

I actually let my dad pick our song.  We're super close and he's big into music, so he was happy about that.  :)  He ended up choosing the slow version of "Forever Young" by Rod Stewart because he loves the lyrics.

I know there were a few threads on father/daughter dance songs before, so if you do a search you'll probably get quite a few ideas!

    Re: Reception Songs

Entrance for - Breathless - The Corrs
First Dance - True Companion - Marc Cohn
Cake Cutting- Cut the Cake - Average White Band
Father Daughter - To Sir With Love - LuLu
Mother Son - What A Wonderful World -  Louis Armstrong
Anniversary Dance - Another Year Has Gone By - Celine Dion (we did this rather than a boquet toss)
Final Dance - Do You Wanna Dance - Bette Midler

We also had dj play the wedding songs from both sets of parents, and then sprinkled in for the slow songs we picked the wedding songs for our siblings.  The DJ made an annoucement for our parents songs but he just slipped in our siblings songs with no mention but we had told the to listen for the song we had picked just for them, and when they heard them they understood.

    Not much help really...!!

Entrance - No idea, whatever happened to be playing at the time, if anything.
    Cake Cutting - ditto
First Dance - Have I Told You Lately (Van Morrison)
Father/daughter dance - umm, no idea, not sure I even danced specifically with him
Last song - Wonderwall, Oasis.  Not planned, just happened to be playing when we decided to skive off.

    Re: Reception Songs

We were supposed to have Knock Me a Kiss for cake cutting, but the coordinator didn't cue the band and I'm pretty sure they played My Romance [instrumental only].

Last dance song was A Kiss to Build a Dream On.  The band started to played this and we decided then that it would be the last song of the night.

We didn't do mother/son or father/daughter dances b/c the parents wanted to skip them.

We also skipped the bouquet toss.

We also didn't have an entrance song.  We did end up with about 5 or 6 little girls running ahead of us yelling 'they're coming, they're coming'.  It was very cute.

I am also considering using a new song "American Cowboy" for the bouquet toss...its a local girl group (Jada), and the song is totally inappropriate for a wedding but I love it. haha. Either that or another Cincinnati-local song. That's a toughie.

    Re: Reception Songs

Since my parents are divorced and remarried I had the father "problem" - I'm very close with my biological and step fathers.  So, we had all the parents (3 sets) and us dance instead of the tradtional father/daughter dance.  We danced to Annie's Song (John Denver).  The moment my DH shared on the dance floor during that song was my favorite of the whole day.  I managed not to cry ony because I desensitized myself in the car a month beforehand by playing Annie's Song on continuous play whereever I went.  It really worked and didn't actually ruin the song for me; if you think you're gonna cry, give it a whirl.

Our first dance was Love Song by Ann Murray (not sure how she spells either name).

    P.S.  Remembered some more...

We had our announcements to Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring.

We picked something for the cake cutting, but I have no idea what it was, now.

Our last dance was my brother Hardy's "Wouldn't Change a Thing."

Kar, I remember you suggesting this in another thread awhile back, and that's exactly what I've been doing!  I have a wedding playlist on my iPod that includes all our ceremony and dance songs, and I listen to it at the gym every day.  I'm finally not getting choked up every time I hear the Bridal Chorus, so I think it's helping!  Smile

KMT - love your entrance songs!
BP intro was to "All-Star" by Smashmouth (slight baseball theme to the wedding)
we entered to "Shipping Up to Boston"
1st dance - "Ain't that a Kick in the Head" by Dean Martin, which we had a great time dancing to!
We did a dance with the bridal party & their SO's to "A Little Help from My Friends" by the Beatles
Cake Cutting - "Cut the Cake" by Average White Band.  It seems appropriate, but the lyrics are pretty dirty :)
Last dance - "Anything, Anytime, Anywhere" - Jimmy Buffett, probably the most beautiful love song I've heard

    Re: Reception Songs

a.m. - I love "Use Somebody" - I'm trying to find a way to work it in...
Judy - "Hot for Teacher" - that's great!  I'm assuming one of you is a teacher?  Or both?

Alf - I love "A Kiss to Build a Dream on" - I'm so glad you mentioned it!  I'm adding it to my must-play list

We're entering to the instrumental surf song from Pulp Fiction (FI's idea... can't think of the name of it) and I think we're just going to have the bridal party walk in to a loop of the instrumental part of "Dirty Water".  1st dance either "Thank you" (Zepplin) or "Book of Love" (peter gabriel version).  Our last songs I think are going to be "Anyone Else But You" from Juno fading into "Bleeding Heart Show" by new pornographers.

We need a mother/son song... can't find one we like.  I will check out "Simple Man" (thx Northern)

It's so hard to choose!!  We gave our dj a list of like 50 must-play songs and he had to gently tell us that he probably will not have time to play them all...

I think I'm going to have to help FI and FMIL pick a mother son song.  They haven't come up with one yet.

FMIL asked FI if she could have a SOLOIST come to our reception to sing a mother son song to them.  He was horrified, and thankfully told her no way!
