    What colors did you choose?

    Hi girls,

I am having a really hard time choosing my main color for the wedding. I found a gorgeous magenta color for bridesmaids dresses that After Six makes, but am having a hard time committing. I know that I am not getting married for another 1.4 years, but I would like to nail down a color fairly soon. The bouquet in my avatar is an inspiration for my bouquet. I seem to love pinks, whites and greens.

So, what colors did you use/are you using? What color were/are your bridesmaids dresses? And what made you choose them?

I always wanted a fall wedding, DH wanted summer. When i discovered our anniversary fell on a Saturday, we made a compromise-I got a fall wedding, DH got dark red as one of the wedding colors. Our other colors were dark blue & dark purple. They were choosen by going to the paint store and taking those paper paint samples to find dark, rich colors that went well together. My bridesmaid wore a dark red dress.

Northern, I really wanted a fall wedding, but being a teacher that wasn't going to happen. August 20th was the closest to fall as I was going to get.

Your colors are very pretty. I love deep colors, especially deep reds and blues.

Re: What colors did you choose?

    Peonie,
I work in the schools also and I had a fall wedding.  My DH and I both love the fall and really wanted to make this work - it's not ideal, but people understand.  We had the wedding on Columbus day weekend and I took Friday off.  We planned our vacation over Christmas vacation week and that actually worked out very well.  It's an important day in your life and only happens once - have it when you want it, not when it's convenient for your job - just my two cents.

My colors were grey with pops of orange and red.  I tried to pull from the colors of the season.  Grey is my favorite color and that's what the bridesmaids wore.  The red/orange flowers really stood out against that.

    Hi Peonie,
My main color is periwinkle blue, with accents of silver.  My MOH will be wearing periwinkle with a bouquet of blue hydrangeas (hopefully as the wedding is in February). The men will have silver vests/ties. I am wearing champagne/ivory and my FI will be wearing one of those colors to match me.

Re: What colors did you choose?

I didn't really have theme colors.  I only had a MOH, and she got to choose her dress color from a Fall palette (we got married in November).  She chose burgundy.  Because of that, her bouquet had red and ivory roses, and the candied apples happened to go with it, too.  I didn't even pick my bouquet color; it was the least important part of the whole thing to me - I let my florist (given details about the wedding style, location, and dress colors) choose everything.

Re: What colors did you choose?

I had a fall wedding - I wore champagne and b/ms were in red (a deep red, but not too deep/dark).  Flowers were green, greys, highlights of deep red, tied with champagne bows/ribbon.

From the colors you have mentioned, a deep magenta could tie in if you do go with a fall wedding (as others have said, it is your day, once in a lifetime, so try not to be too bound by work).

ETA - our groomsmen wore black suits, black vests (they didn't wear red, lest they resemble a playing card, and I think it is mean to make them wear a color that they don't normally wear/arent comfortable in) and the groom wore black suit, champagne vest.

Re: What colors did you choose?

My colors are brown and pink. They're just my two favorite colors. I think FI is happy that it's not an all-pink Strawberry Shortcake wedding. Of course, his groomsmen aren't psyched about the pink vests I picked out, but what can you do.

Pink and green are beautiful colors together, especially in your August wedding. If you really like the magenta, I think magenta, light pink and a sea green would be pretty. I'm not sure I love the idea of magenta with a jade green to get the deep colors, but ultimately, your opinion is the only one that matters!

My colors are marine (navy) and clover (green) from the DB color choices.  Our wedding is in 2+ weeks on the Cape.  It will give it a very preppy, beachy feel which is perfect for our ocean view reception.

I actually picked out my colors before we were engaged when I saw a DB ad with that combination and fell in love.

Re: What colors did you choose?

I think magenta is a great color. I wanted to use it, but DH was not enthusiastic about a pink wedding, and it didn't really go with the interior of the Aquarium. I wanted to keep things monotone to make my life easier so using it as an accent was out..

So, I chose cobalt blue to play off the water, blue is DH's favorite color, and cobalt blue is one of my favorite colors. I did a monotone theme with it. Everything was either cobalt blue, a lighter shade, or white. My shoes, paper flowers, centerpieces (accented with white starfish), invites, linens, my shawl and all the BMs were in blue. I just gave my BMs a color swatch and told them to pick whatever dresses they wanted in that color.

my BIL and his FI's wedding is going to be magenta and grey. I would have never thought of that, but it's such a sophistictaed combination.

Re: What colors did you choose?

My colors were clover green and pink.  Most things were green (BM dresses, ribbon on cake, even our mothers' dresses), but flowers were pink, green, and white.  DH & groomsmen wore platinum vests and ties.

I originally wanted more of a teal color for the BM dresses, but DH vetoed that idea.

Peonie - I love your avatar - gorgeous.

I couldn't decide either.  So my bridesmaids wore black dresses and my groomsman and groom wore green ties.  My bouquets and the centerpieces were multicolored.  It was all very bright and cheery (despite the black dresses).

Re: What colors did you choose?

Hi Peonie!  Our wedding is in August also and our main color is fuchsia.  I wasn't going to do it originally because I wasn't sure FI wanted it, but he agreed!  Pink has always been my favorite color and I think it is perfect for August!  The BMs are wearing fuchsia dresses that I saw in a magazine and fell in love with.  I'm not sure they were totally thrilled with it (well 2 were fine with it, 1 said she was okay with it, but I got the feeling she didn't love it, but she went with it anyway).  Early on I found myself second guessing all my decisions because I wasn't sure other people would like them.  I finally got over that with FI's help, which has made things a lot easier.

I'm still having trouble picking accent colors.  I was thinking of doing a sherbert type theme (fuchsia, orange and lime green) mainly so I could incorporate the lime green orchids.  But now I'm realizing I think I just want fuchsia and peach roses in my bouquet.  I don't know, still deciding!

One thing I will warn you, you might not want to choose things too early.  I know I've changed my mind a lot.  Of course, I tend to be indecisive.  :)

Another recommendation:  look around for inspiration!  I wasn't totally sure on the color scheme until I found an invitation I LOVE!  It is very fuchsia, so that was what made my decision to pick fuchsia.  Here's the invite actually:

Thanks Pink!  I was *SO* happy to find it!  Nothing else impressed me much until I saw this one in the magazine.  The colors were perfect.  I realized later that the pattern is very similar to henna designs which is probably another reason I like it so much!  :)  I only wish they sold matching programs and escort cards.

My BMs wore chocolate brown dresses, the guys had burnt orange vests and ties with their tuxes, and I used dark red accents in other places. We got married at the end of July.

Sorry this is ginormous. Technical difficulties.

Forgive me - escort cards?  Will there be an escort service?

I bet if you email the person who makes them, she can do programs and stuff for you.  It's good business.

speaking of colors and flowers, I found this Etsy seller that uses real orchids and roses dipped in some kind of clear resin in jewelry and hair accessories. Might be a nice BM gift or bridal accessory.

Huh?  Isn't that what those little tent cards that tell you what table you are at are called?  Whatever those are.  :)

Yeah, they tell people where to sit.  I always laughed at the name though, like you're assigning each guest an "escort."
