    Consignment Shop

I am on a tight budget and I'd like to avoid David's bridal. I was hoping the readers out there could recommend some consignment shops that specialize in wedding dresses (do they even exist?); a charity that resells wedding dresses (there is one for breast cancer but not in New England); or a good consignment shop.
    Thanks!

I'm not sure of any consignment shops but running of the brides is back in Boston on February 19th.  Dresses are $249, $499 and $699. Good Luck!

Over the Rainbow in Beverly or Essex (?; it's on the north shore, anyway) is the only consignment store for wedding dresses that I've ever heard mentioned.  If you google it, you should be able to find it. Otherwise, try eBay or Craigslist.  Good luck!

You can also try The Bridal Secret in Quincy.  They aren't consignment but they only sell never worn sample dresses, discontinued gowns, or stock from stores that are closing so you can save 30-70%.

If you're willing to travel there is The Bridal Garden in NY.  It's a non-profit organization.  I haven't been there myself but I found it on Yelp.

You can check out VOWS in watertown.  Most of their dresses are on the pricier side as they are big name designers, but they do have sale ones that are very cheap. Check out the website

www.bridepower.com   look at their megamarkdowns section.

    Re: Consignment Shop

VOWS is where I got my dress, and I paid $700 which was a steal for a dress they guessed at being worth over $5k and my seamstress guessed at over $8,000.  Just to let you know their cheapest tag is $500, but you might be able to talk them down a bit.  Their inventory is online:  www.bridepower.com

It's not a traditional consignment shop; the dresses are all never-worn samples.

    Re: Consignment Shop

For what it's worth, you might want to check out some bridal shops anyway.  I don't think David's dresses are less expensive than a lot of regular stores and the quality is better.

I went to Marry and Tux in Nashua and paid less than $400 for a dress from the prior season.  Love them!

I would also check out Craigslist for someone local so you can try the dress on.  Most eBay sellers won't accept returns, although I did find one and did return it.
