    Last minute things?

This stems from the Final Countdown post.

Our wedding is 5 weeks away, and I'm starting to relax since it seems that everything is almost done.  However, all you ladies say that 2-3 weeks before your wedding was the busiest and most stressful time!

Tell me about all the last minute things that came up for you, so I can prepare myself.  Smile

    Re: Last minute things?

*We almost forgot to get our marriage licence.
*Waited until about 10 days before the wedding to pick out our music (DJ).
*Wrote our vows and got them to our pastor 4 days before the wedding.
*Forgot about the table numbers, and had to print them out on my own the day before the wedding and drop them off with my coordinator.
*Making arrangments for my cat and house to be taken care of while we were on the honeymoon.
*Forgot to set up the car rental for the honeymoon until about 6 days before we had to leave.
*DH and his groomsmen didn't go to pick up their tuxes until about an hour and a half before the rehearsal and were almost late.
*I left all of our travel info on my computer at work and had to go in before we left for the honeymoon to get it.

We also just got a lot of annoying calls - people telling us they couldn't come, asking if they could bring a date, people expecting us to set up their ride from the airport (we don't even have a car), people calling to tell us the hotel is sold out and they don't know where they are staying (2 days before the wedding) and just silly stuff like that which causes unnecessary stress.

That's all I can think of now.

Here's some stuff that kept me busy in the final weeks:

Picking up dress, having it pressed, picking up again.

    Getting waxed

    Bathroom baskets

Framing some photos for the gifts table

    Alphabetizing placecards

Wrapping bridal party gifts... or in the case of the GMs actually buying gifts!!

DKB - the hotels were a nightmare for me too!  My FMIL had set up transportation to and from the hotel at the last minute... even though almost no one booked a room (including her!)... and the only rooms left were almost $400!!!

It is just that all the vendors really want to meet with you or confirm things 1-2 weeks before the wedding, and it takes a lot of time to email, set them up, do the work they want you have done, print out directions to the meeting spot etc.

Also, getting waxed, nails done, packing for the wedding and the honeymoon, doing laundry, writing nice thoughtful cards to parents and bridal party, wrapping gifts, packing the car took forever!

It is nothing super hard or time consuming - just it all takes time!

    Re: Last minute things?

I totally spaced on hotel welcome bags, and when i finally remembered there just wasnt' time.

My last minute things were mainly in regard to cancellations and having to fix seating charts (we had some "replacements" that i wrote about in a different thread).

    Other things:
    - deciding on a mother/son song (we did the Pretenders version of "Forever Young")
    - table names/numbers (did them myself based on Italian historical landmarks and took much longer than i anticipated!)
    - packing and getting house ready for honeymoon
    - prnting honeymoon travel info and directions
    - packaging up all "stuff" to drop off to venue
    - finding "spanx" - I had forgotten to get them until the day before!
    - get stuff for honeymoon such as sunscreen and an electrical adapter
    - honeymoon car rental and international driver's license
    - wrapping all BM, GM, parents gifts
    - laundry

Most of our vendors wouldn't discuss final details with me until within 2 weeks of the wedding (which I know is standard but drove me crazy!), so this meant that after speaking with them, I had all kinds of questions to answer about things I hadn't thought of until they brought it up!  Like, do we want the leftover cake to be packd up and sent home with us?  little thing, but when you have 50 of those little decisions to make, it adds up!

However, I will say, for me, the last 2 days were very calm and quiet. :)

    Re: Last minute things?

I actually left my veil at home, and I realized when we were an hour from home.  DH risked his very life (I begged him to just let it go) to get it to the church in time, and by some miracle he made it with 10 minutes to spare.  An angel must have helped him along.

So, don't assume you'll remember anything even shoes, undergarments, whatever!!  Make a list of things you must have with you when you leave for the last time as Miss KMT.  Add to the list as soon as you think of more things (I usually thought of stuff in the shower and then forgot all about adding it when I got out).  The night before, read the list to your mom and see if she can think of anything else you'll need and cannot go back for.

Be sure to put "Relaxation" and "Tranquility" on the list - those are often left behind. :)

I second the idea of writing EVERYTHING down!!!
I had a running list of things to do, but I didn't add "pick up dresses from dry cleaner" because I thought there is no way in heck I will forget to pick up my wedding dresses of all things!!  Well I ended up remembering at 7:20 pm as I was alphabetizing placecards on my living room floor.  Thank goodness the place was open until 8:00.

Heather - there is a Pretenders version?!!!!!  You have got to be kidding me.  I love the Pretenders but I never came across it in my searching.  Damn!

oh! print and remember to bring photos from your hair & makeup trials if you have them.  they can be helpful to refer to on your wedding day.  My makeup artist took awesome notes from the trial, so I didn't need photos, but I wish I remembered the photos for the hair dresser.

and have any wedding favors ready to go

make a schedule for the weekend all the important people (bridal party, parents) and print out copies for them, so they can keep track of where they need to be (esp. if you are having a rehearsal, hair/makeup appts for them, etc.)

print out some extra direction sheets for out-of-towners who need to get to your rehearsal, wedding, etc.

I will not be getting my mani/pedi until literally 3 hours before the rehearsal dinner because I ALWAYS chip my manicures!!!!!

Also, when should I get my armpits waxed? I don't want to have redness, but I don't want to have them start to grow in....

Do you normally get them waxed?  If so I think you have enough time between now and then, get them done and just keep track :)  Since we seem to share quite a bit on this board, I am not into the waxing thing.  I just shaved the morning off.  And I generally exfoliate in the pits anyway to avoid that 5 o'clock shadow look.  I just use St.Ives apricot scrub on my face in the shower in the morning and then 2-3 times a week after I put it on my face there is a little left over on my hands and I give the pits a bit of a scrub.

I should try the St. Ives trick, I hate that 5 o'clock shadow look!!

I gave it a whirl since Fram said she did it all the time with great success.  I have to say, with the hard wax I'm using for the brazillian, it worked pretty well.  (Surgiwax is the BEST with a little practice.  The wax itself hardens and you peel it off instead of using strips.  And, the numbing solution works fairly well, too; it takes the edge off.)  Anyway, I just couldn't get it all, but I did well enough that I might decide to do it long term sometime.  I got one bump, and I wasn't a fan of not being able to wear anti-perspirant for that day or the day after.  But, it didn't hurt too bad.  The problem was the awkwardness of trying to pull the skin taught with the hand on the side of the pit you're doing.  Also, the hair grows in many directions (on me, anyway), and that made it hard, too.

Yes!  I like Dylan, but DH doesn't so was thrilled to come across the Pretenders version.  We just searched "forever young" on itunes and found it.

It was SO HARD to find a mother-son dance song we liked that was appropriate!!

All I had left to do in the last week was pack, pick up my dress and everything from my mom's house, get a cable to connect the iPod to our stereo and get a manicure.
I did all of that the day before the wedding, except the cable, I actually bought that the morning of the wedding day because I knew if I had to sit in the hotel room and wait until 2:00pm to get ready I'd go nuts.

Kar, do you do your own brazillians? I would be terrified! I would be so scared of ripping off any skin down there....

I do, too, and so I didn't even get my nails done at all for the wedding.  I did them myself with a buffer and cuticle oil (the night before).  Toes and fingers.  It was obviously natural looking, but very clean and shiney from the buffing.  My SIL was horrified that I wasn't going to get them done, but when she saw them she was happy with how they came out.  And, I didn't want to bother with chips and touchups on the beach honeymoon.

I get mine waxed. I am very fair with very dark brown hair, so even if I shave that morning, the skin is still a bit darker because of the hair under the surface.

So, I definitely didnt want this for the wedding! I got them and my bikini line waxed on Thursday and I was clean and clear all through the honeymoon too!
    Totally worth it.
I let them grow in for a solid week, which is the hard part. But - two and a half weeks without shaving? Totally worth it, in my opinion.

Also, I think the armpits hurts less than bikini and eyebrows.

    Re: Last minute things?

My last minute stuff that came up was mostly hotel-related horror the day before.  I should have designated a hotel person from the wedding party when they were asking what they could do...
As far as little things to do, I had to run last minute to print out a picture to go in the frame I had diligently packed to go on the entry table.  And I also forgot to go to the ATM to get cash for tips.  Whoops!

And I think it was mentioned but I REALLY STRONGLY second the tip of calling your photographer & going over the "must take" photos in the days before the wedding.  Our final meeting with ours was 2 months earlier.  With all I had going on, I didn't even think to review the list just prior to the wedding & I really should have.
    Oh & enjoy!!  :)

    Hi Sept2010!
Since you have plenty of time, I'd get them waxed a couple of times before the wedding and see how your body reacts.  I don't experience any redness or bumps (except for the redness immediately after they pull out the hair) so I went 2 days before the wedding.
You will likely still need to shave, because hair grows in cycles and some of the hairs will be too short or they will sprout the next day.  But they will be so sparse and fine compared to usual!  It's awesome!

Yeah, I am actually growing it out right now, because the weather is so lousy, I haven't been wearing tank tops much....I have an appointment next Wednesday at a spa in Watertown where I get my eyebrows done...I trust them, and they have what is called 'scream cream' that they say numbs the skin?
