    RSVP date???

Hello! We are about to order our wedding invitations for our October 9th wedding. I'm wondering when you all think the RSVP date should be for the invitations.

    Re: RSVP date???

Ask your caterer when they need the final head count and make the RSVP date about a week or ten days before that.  It will give you time to call those who don't bother to respond.  Unfortunately there will be some.
    Congrats and good luck!

    Re: RSVP date???

I totally agree with misslily.  Great advice.  It did take me about a week to nail down the numbers after the RSVP date.

    Re: RSVP date???

Yes, ditto. You need to find out from your venue/caterer when they want the head count by. Ours wanted it 1 MONTH in advance. It actually worked out well having the RSVP date 1 month out we had time to find out who didn't respond and call them. I know most people have their RSVP date about 2 weeks out, but I feel that that is cutting it too close! I'm a planner!  I'm sure others will tell you that 2 weeks was fine for them though.

    Re: RSVP date???

Mine is October 1st, and we're doing a month. Despite our caterer only needing 3 days notice, my work schedule doesn't allow for much free time to figure out seating, make phone calls and whatever else may come along in the last few weeks. As much as I can get done well beforehand the better.

    Re: RSVP date???

Ours was 3 weeks before the wedding.  Caterer needed the final number like 3 days before.  But I wanted to leave enough time to do the seating chart and escort cards and I knew I'd need the time!  (which I did!)

Trex makes a good point, make sure you leave yourself enough time to make a seating chart and whatever else you might want. I thought the chart would be a breeze, but it was really difficult!

The chart was super hard for us, too.  I'm glad we only had 80 people.

    Re: RSVP date???

that's the same date we got married last year!! the wedding was 10/9 and I requested 9/1 as the RSVP date and let me tell you I still had to track people down right up until the last minute!

We started a skeleton seating chart before we received all the RSVP's.  We had a good idea and then made adjustments.

    Re: RSVP date???

Do remember that sometimes invitations get misplaced or lost in the mail, so some RSVP stragglers aren't that way on purpose.

(This happened to me a few weeks ago. The RSVP date was a couple of weeks after they mailed the invite and mine didn't arrive until after I'd gotten the "where's your response?" email, presumably because it was taking some fun adventures through the postal service on its cross-country journey. I wasn't knowingly making their lives difficult.)

    Re: RSVP date???

I worked backwards from my wedding date so my timeline went something like this:

    July 31: wedding
July 14-ish (two weeks before): RSVPs
    June 1-ish: mail invitations

Only three people from my entire family RSVP'd (because they're baboons) so I had to track them down. Most people told me: "I thought you'd just know." At least they thought I was so awesome as to have supernatural powers.

    Re: RSVP date???

Mine was 3 weeks before the wedding.  Our caterer needed a final headcount the week of the wedding so that gave me 2 extra weeks to track down those who didn't respond and to finalize the seating chart.
