    wedding reviews 5-17 Brockton

Hi all, we're back!  And now that we've caught up from a complete lack of sleep, I think I'm ready to review our awesome vendors!!  Not sure where to start... I'll just go through the weekend in order.

Hotel - Country Inn & Suites in Brockton - C- (at best)
The manager, Adam, seemed great & promised us 2 rooms upgraded to suites, plus the use of the conference room for any after parties.  But we ran into problems several times where is seemed the staff did not know how to book under a room block and people were getting the run around.  All was cleared up eventually (by me, the day before the wedding when several people still had no rooms & the hotel was full).  The manager had been "away on business" for 6 weeks before my wedding, so whenever I called to get an update, confirm numbers, or fix a problem, I got a different story.  In the end, we had upgraded 2 rooms to suites, but both were charged the full rate, instead of the agreed upon rate.  Still fighting that one.

    Ok, now the good ones!

Hair - Jillene Farrar, Impressions Salon - Weymouth - A
Jill is a friend of SIL & was fantastic!!  I had a rough idea of what I wanted, but Jill went with it at the trial & I loved it!!  She did even better on the day & my very uncooperative fine hair stayed in place all day & night.  She also whipped up all the girls' hair styles, which looked great!  She showed up at the venue early & also gave me some advice on finishing up my make-up.

Make-up - me, with lots of help from Bare Essentuals in Natick.  no rating, but they were very helpful!

    Flowers - Barry's Florist/Ambiance Florist in Braintree - B
Everyone at Barry's was super nice & the meeting went well, especially considering that then FMIL was there with me & we had some differing opinions on, well, everything.   The only downsides were that they showed up really early & there was nobody at the venue to let them in, and neiither my bouquet  nor DH's bout was not what he wanted.  He had a specific request, a lavendar ribbon around his rose, to match my bouquet.  They did deliver 2 different choices for him to choose from, but neither was what he wanted.  My bouquet was supposed to be only red roses & stephanotis, but they put in bunches of filler (kind of like baby's breath).  The day wasn't ruined by any means, but it was a downer for a few minutes.  Luckily, flowers weren't a big deal to me.

    Photography - Jeff Turner (www.jeffturnerphotography.com) - A
Jeff & George really did a fantastic job!  We loved them & everyone has been telling us how great they were, plus we just saw the pics on-line & they are WONDERFUL!  All of the positive reviews I've read here have been on-point & I will join the crowd of recomending them highly.   Overall we were thrilled with everything and thanks to Jeff's great eye, we got some wonderful pictures and my absolute favorite moment of the day when he pulled just DH & I out onto the field for a "twilight shot".  It was 1 quiet moment that we had to just enjoy what was happening.

    DJ - Mark McGillicuddy  ( 617-479-9766. djmcgill@comcast.net) A
Mark is awesome!!  I have known him for years, but have only ever seen him DJ at local bars and at Buffett, which he rocks!  But he is very adaptable & did an awesome job at our wedding too!!  He played all of our must plays & filled in with great stuff to keep the floor hopping all night!  I only remember 2 "wedding classics" - the Electric Slide, which was undoubtedly demanded by my family & thouroughly enjoyed and "I Will Survive" which was at least partially dedicated to DH.  Then FI did not want a lot of wedding-y music played, but the floor was always crowded.  Everyone said it was the best time & from what I saw in pictures, they really meant it!

    JP - Justice Michelle Lydon - A+
Michelle is such a fun, wonderful person!  She took the time to sit with us, over pizza and beers to get to know us & what we wanted from our wedding & in life.  She took our ideas and added her own, making it personal, touching, and fun!  There was just the right amount of crying and laughing, and she had a copy of our official license waiting for us within a week of the ceremony.  I would very highly recommend her to anyone, she helped me handle any stress and was just all around super!

    Cake - Montillio's - A
The cake was part of our package.  They customized the flavors for us and followed the design I gave them to a T.  I loved our cake and I met Bob Montillio when he dropped it off.  A very nice guy & he was saying how much they liked doing custom cakes like ours for regular people.  The cake was delish & I'm pretty sure we'll cave in the next week or so & thaw out the top layer :)

    Venue - The Shaw's Center - A+
This was the perfect site for us!  We loved it and all of the people we dealt with were fantastic!  People have been telling me how great the service was and DH & I can vouch for the food too!  The prices were fantastic, prime rib was under $60pp and our package included the cake, our hotel, a toast, and probably some other stuff I'm forgetting.  I will tell anyone looking that this is a hidden gem & can do just about anything!  We went with a baseball theme, but on my visits to say hi I saw the place set up for many different styles.  I would strongly advise anyone looking to call Donna and go see the place in person, their website does it absolutely no justice!
Also, they were so attentive, I can't say enough.  While we were doing pictures in the dugout (the field was muddy), my SIL asked if the team had any bats we could use for props.  The manager brought out 2 new bats.  After the pictures, they brought one in and had all out guests sign it as a gift to us.  You just couldn't ask for beter service and nicer people!

    Town Car - JB Livery  - A
The driver was very friendly, the car was clean & he patiently waited for us for about 20 minutes while we were saying some final goodbyes.  The one way trip price was very reasonable too... I think it was about $50.

Ok, for anyone still reading... sorry it was so long! The day was great & if anyone has question, please let me know!!

CONGRATS, tibird!!!  Wow, what a long, difficult journey for you and your DH you've come through with flying colors.  So happy for you!!

Best on the hotel fight.  Happy to see mostly As, though - sounds like a great day.

    Blessings on your marriage!

    Thank you all!!
Staci - we did get LOTS of pics of just the 2 of us, especially of her walking me down the aisle, just nothing formal, other than the family pics.  I think we'll manage just fine and some of the candids are awesome :)

Kar - the honeymoon went well - due to mechanical problems w/ the plane, we extended it to 5 days in Vegas.  We did a few sightseeing things & had fun, I highly recommend the Rat Pack dinner show and seeing the original casinos downtown!  We also realized just how much we've aged in the past 2 years though.  I think we're done with Vegas for a while :)  And thank you for your kinds words!!

Dani - yep, I thought all of our vendors were wonderful & really hope more people realize that the burbs are a great option!  Everything (hotel excluded) went better than I could have ever imagined!

Thank you!  I hope my reviews didn't come across as too negative - I really couldn't have been happier with things the day of.  Nothing is ever "perfect" but everything & everyone was darn near close!

Sounds like you had a great day. Congrats!

I have a question. I have been toying with the idea of doing my own make up as well. I am not someone who is great at doing make up or that wears it all the time. I just cannot justify spending so much money on it, when I want my make up to look pretty natural, since I genuinely don't wear too much of it. Here's my question, did you feel that it put a lot of stress on you for your wedding day with everything else you had to think about and then having to do your make up too??

    Re: wedding reviews 5-17 Brockton

GK - nope, I didn't feel there was much pressure at all. I went about a month before for a tutorial and ended up with just a few basics.  I practiced putting it on every day for about a week or 2, to varying degrees & found what I liked best.  It only ended up taking 15 mintues to do, since I didn't wear a ton.  And since I had to wait for my turn with the hair stylist, I had plenty of time.

Tibird, I have a question about the makeup as well!  I'm having my mom do mine for me, but I want to buy some new makeup that will stay fresh looking for the day.  Did you feel the Bare Escentuals products held up well?  I've been looking into the MAC products, but I'm curious to hear how you liked yours.

    Re: wedding reviews 5-17 Brockton

I wanted to follow up on my review for Jeff, as he is truly wonderful & deserves nothing but positive remarks.  I wanted to be clear that he and George did take a TON of pictures of my mom and I as a part of the family formals, as well as candids throughout the day and they came out great (we already got the proofs and discs in the mail!!)  They really did capture the day and caught a lot that DH & I had missed, which we are so grateful for!
I just wanted to clear up any confusion that could have been caused by my earlier review, sometimes things in writing can come across differently than intended.

Oh, and as it turns out, Jeff was able to photo-shop something together for me, which I didn't know was even possible!  Such professionalism & great work!

I really like the BE stuff.  I've been using the basics from the starter kit for about a year & just added blush, eyeliner & shadow. I was nervous about the powder liner holding up, but its great!  I didn't get a chance to touch up during the reception & I think it still looks fine at the end.

Thanks!  It's always good to hear about other people's experiences with products before buying your own.  I'm going to have to look into BE as well!

Thanks for the make-up tips! I think that is a great idea about seeking out the tutorial and practicing every day. I am going to try that out and it is great to hear there was not much stress involved with it. : )

After working at Sephora a little over two years, I never heard anyone complain about BE unless they had super-dry skin. It's lasts all day, we're talking 20 hours if need be. It's not waterproof on it's own, but you can buy a fixer from Smashbox or Make Up Forever that sprays on afterwards and that will make your look last through anything and keep it from rubbing off on clothing.

I did my own BE makeup, and put it on about an hour before the wedding.  I put on a little extra foundation, and I used the Primers (Prime Time and the eye one).  It stayed put like magic all night.

P.S. I understand about not wanting to seem too negative... I was just thinking the same about my reviews!  Overall everything was wonderful, but I think/hope it's helpful to point out things for other brides to avoid.  Thanks!

P.P.S. I also hear you on the photos.  I'm sure I will be thrilled with them but of course there are coulda shoulda wouldas.
