Where to go for Anniversary?

Where to go for Anniversary?

Hey ladies,
I haven't been around much, but, I know you have great ideas. Typically, we go to the Barker Tavern for our anniversary and it's always nice. This year, however, is our 10th annivesary and we want to do something different. We were going to go to Vegas, but, then decided not to break the bank and just go away for 1 night somewhere closer to home. Originally we were going to go to Mohegan Sun, but, our anniversary is on a Friday so the only rooms I could find on site are $500+ I really wouldn't want to go to a casino and not stay on site. SO, this is why I'm coming to you ladies. Any great ideas for where we could spend our 10th anniversary in the New England area? We have family houses in VT and North Conway, so, I'd rather not go there. I tried looking up ideas down the Cape or even Long Island, but, I haven't a clue. So, if you know of any great places to stay in the middle of july, I would love the advice.
Thanks! -

How about somewhere in Cape Ann/North Shore? Not sure where you are now, but if you don't already live or visit up there, it can be really nice. Rockport has some cute B&B's, or Newburyport, Magnolia...etc.
Or, maybe down in Newport, RI - all the huge mansions and a really cute town area. That could be fun. -

Portsmouth would be nice for a night out with your DH. Right on the water, there are nice restaurants, you can wander around town.
Congrats! -

The Wayside Inn is really nice, if you're into that sort of thing.

Or, if you can swing a couple of nights, I would say go to Nantucket. -

Great ideas. Right now he's thinking of Foxwoods. I know the MGM Grand is supposed to be nice. Have any of you stayed there? I wasn't sure if one hotel was better than the other. -

I haven't actually stayed there, but I've been to the MGM Grand at Foxwoods. It is very nice. And they have a Craftsteak, which is supposed to be very good. -

MGM Grand is very nice. We've stayed there twice. The rooms are good-sized and the bathrooms quite nice. Once we did a couples massage at G-Spa which was great. If you get a spa treatment, you get a day-pass to the pool area as well. (Otherwise no pool, just something to consider for the summer.) We ate the first time at Craftsteak (for my birthday). It was great, but be prepared for a BIG bill. We splashed out, but dinner for 2 was close to $400. The next time we stayed we ate at Altastrada. Very good Italian, more casual and less expensive than Craftsteak. -

This is where we got married and was what I was going to suggest upon hitting this thread!
It's the oldest working inn in America and had many famous early Americans on the guest list. There are 10 rooms. The food and service is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Ask for the "anniversary table" when you make reservations, but definitely go anyway if you can't get that spot. The filet mignon is to die for. It's where we'll be on our anniversary!!!
I think they have weekend overnight specials...check out the website lucy posted and see what's going on.
P.S. AND, it's right next door in Sudbury, MA! -

I second Newport-
but if you want to a little longer get-a-way, the Long Island Vineyards are FABULOUS! and sooo peaceful and quiet. Stay in Greenport, right on the water- and the vineyards are about 15mins away.
Or Rockport is really nice too. I've stayed at the Sally Webster Inn, about 3 mins walking dist to downtown, very reasonable prices and so cute. -

I think the rooms at MGM grand are going to be about the same as Mohegan. and if you're deciding between the 2 casinos I like the Sun way better. There is a lot more to do there, aside from gambling. Although I have not been to the MGM yet. -

lovetoplan, the rates at the MGM are steep. but since they opened, one can now find less expensive rooms at the Cedar or even at the newer Grand Picot right next to MGM.
Have you ever been to the Berkshires in the western part of the state? Not only is it a beautiful area, but you may be able to catch a concert at Tanglewood. There is also the Rockwell museum there - well worth the trip. There are plenty of wonderful B & Bs in the area. Of course no gambling - if that is what you are looking for. -

Thanks for the great ideas! I can't wait to share them w/ DH. I checked Mohegan Sun and it was $500 for the night because it's a Friday. The MGM was $247, so, half the price. Yikes!
The Wayside Inn sounds alot like The Barker Tavern. It's the 2nd oldest building in America. Unfortunately, there's no hotel right there. There is a hotel down the street, but, even though I've been going to Scituate all my life I know nothing about it.
We were figuring a trip to the casinos was going to cost us quite a bit, so, that's why we still hadn't made the final plans yet. Thanks for the info about the MGM pool. That bites that you can't use it if you don't use the spa. I think the couples massage is the same cost as the room, but, it could be worth it. ;)
If anyone has any other ideas, keep 'em coming. I'll let you know what we finally decide to do. Thank you SO much!!!

Hey ladies,
I wanted to thank you for your great ideas. I have them all filed away for future reference. My inlaws decided to flake out (as usual) and it looks like we'll have to bring DD and the puppy to the Cape to stay with my family while we go out and celebrate. So, that sort of kills the CT, ME, LI ideas :( We're making the best of it and we're going to find a place on the outer cape to stay for the night. I'm hoping that maybe in the Fall when things calm down a bit more we'll be able to take off for a longer weekend, but, at least my parents are being great about taking them for us. -

For a romantic night go to Providence RI when they have a waterfire and do the gondola ride. There is an array of hotels and restaurants near by. Biltmore, Westin and Rennesance, (the last is very cool) To eat Ruth Chris's steak house and the Waterplace rest are both on the basin with outstanding view. Or you can graze at all the food vendors. There is ballroom dancing outside at the Turk's head building, or jazz on Steeple St. I believe the waterfire in July is on Saturday July25th. The gondola ride is about $140 and takes you on the route of the waterfire. They provide glasses and you provide your wine. It is beautiful relaxing and romantic.
