Well, yeah.  You don't get to pick your family.  The people you were given to are not necessarily the ones you end up liking best, and not always the ones who have your back when you need it.

OK ... so the new original discussion topic is an asterisk?

I tried to parse the original orignal this morning before coffee and thought I'd get back to it.

To answer what I think it used to say:

Yes. I agree that people should be free to create 'family' that may or may not include blood.

    Not just 'innocents,' everyone.

Blood is blood and always will be. But if your blood family feels like an exercise in bloodletting, then they are not who you should spend your heart and life on.

Friends are the family you choose for yourself.

    Re: Family

Coincidentally, I am currently available for adoption.

    Re: Family

    Adult adoption?

The sugar daddy angle is one I hadn't given much thought.  But, yeah, I guess that is sort of tangential to the common practice during the Roman Republic [and Empire] where adult persons were adopted to secure continuity of line and inheritance.

I thought it was more common now where same-gender couples were involved to establish a familial relationship vis-a-vis next-of-kin, child custody, etc.

In my own life I see no purpose to it, but I concede the necessity for others.

[and no, I'm not being as mundane as dirt ... there just aren't emoticons germane to my tone]
