Yes.  Yes they do.  It's all about e-peniis, too...who has the better kill/death ratio or more sniper headshots or more knife kills.  It's like these silly numbers are the bones of their ancestors, and insulting them instigates a lifetime blood feud.

Annies is excellent stuff.  I'm partial to the bunny shaped pasta cos I have a bunny and I'm also a sap.

Stop n Schlepp has a store brand called Nature's Promise that makes outstanding box mac n cheese.

7/11 Mint Chocolate Cookies are comparable to Girl Scout Thin Mints.

Boxed Macaroni and Cheese is one of the few things I refuse to buy generic, it has to be kraft if I"m too lazy to make it from scratch.

Now it's Kraft cause I don't have an oven :)

I get the sense that I'm being passive-aggressively referred to in this thread, so let me just state that sure, some jokes get out of line, and some people do get picked on - then again, EVERYONE gets picked on here, but I suppose that point will just have to be sidestepped for now.

Where is the fairness if the ones who joke around have to self-police, if the people who are oversensitive and get up-in-arms about Mac-n-Cheese won't self-police as well?  Like, don't get uppity if you read too much into a comment or take something (and yourself) way to seriously?

Life doesn't sugarcoat anything for you.  If it does then you're being done a great disservice.

Re: Some Thoughts on The Blog

Butterfly, that's the problem, isn't it?  How can any of us be more objective?  How would we know?

There are regular posters whose job it seems to be to point out when people are being inconsistent.  Like when we were telling a LW to be young and date and enjoy herself, 24 hours after splashing all over the blog that MP was a selfish manwh0re because of all of his dating around.  A few people did point this out.  Lily tries to always see the 'losing' side's point, just to keep the blog seesaw from falling down on one end with a thud.  Eddy and Porkchop make sarcastic comparisions with other letters to point out inconsistencies in our advice.  Jock and Sally mock the importance we assign to issues, in an attempt to make the discourse more interesting and to lighten the Mood Of Doom.

Everyone has their little schtick.  And when it works, it really works.  And when it doesn't, I personally think everyone has a duty to get the hell out of Dodge til everything simmers down.  No joke, we should all listen to our own safeword.

This is what I always come back to with this topic: Who decides what is a "transgression" How is heightened self-accountability measured? Who decides when is "necessary and appropriate"?

This is why we need a blog despot; a Benevolent Dictator to make these arbitrary decisions for us.

The only solution I see is more objective self-policing by the regulars combined along with heightened self accountability for transgressions.

And therein lies the rub.  Some people are capable of being objectively self-aware and owning up to their bad behavior.  Others?  Not so much. Thus, the need for relationship advice.......

Re: Some Thoughts on The Blog

Butterflyz, I have to say, in an ideal world that may work, however on a public blog, it doesnt. People are going to post however they want. And it will either be poofz or recommended. Trying to change the blog to be a certain way, no matter how hard people try will never happen.

This place use to be a flirt fest back in the day. Pretty raunchy at times. We have kind of (yes, kind of) gotten beyond that and it seems we are more cynical and snarky now. I am sure in time, people will tire of it and it will move onto something else all together. Just like some of the regulars back in the day and moved on. When new people start coming in and kind of taking over, then there will be a shift, until then, this is just the way it is.

    OH and for the record....
Maybe it was sort of my fault when Me and Jazzy got into a slight beef.
THE ONLY REASON IT STARTED was because she kept making fun of slim/skinny/sleek people....I mean a few comments here & there fine - BUT TO ME it seemed like EVERYDAY FOR WEEKS there were the same negative 'skinny' connotations - AND I JUST SNAPPED!!!
Could I have handled it better instead of reacting by calling her nasty names - YES I SHOULD OF HANDLED IT IN A MORE GENTLER FASHION.
But, I'm just the Seebz - never know when I'm gonna freak out.
Anyhoo.......that's my story and I'm stickin to it.
Other than that - it's all good.

One last thing before I go back and read the timezone-impaired posts.

The complaining about "cliques" is really tiring, and becoming nothing but static at this point to me.

There are people who will naturally gravitate towards each other because their points of view are similar, or they find each other funny, or whatever commonality draws them together.  It happens everywhere in every single facet of life.  It's useless to complain about.

Re: Some Thoughts on The Blog

I understand that it's unrealistic for a number of reasons such as the questions Zept pointed out, but I have seen a number of regulars on here say that the tone has gotten more hostile. Meredith has to remind us to "be nice" more often and there are more and more lurkers who burst on to complain about this place. I don't think that should be ignored. That doesn't mean that sometimes it's an unreasonable expectation on other people's part, but like the Supreme Court said about porn, I think more often than not, you know bad behavior when you see it and the people who post inflammatory and abusive stuff know exactly what they're doing.

And being imperfect yourself doesn't mean you can't ever criticize someone else, otherwise none of us should ever criticize any LW ever. We all make mistakes but I only find it hypocritical if someone who is continuously acting badly were to complain. I think the majority of the commenters are behaved within reason enough to call out someone else for something inappropriate.
