Part of the problem is in the fact that our faith in the Church is damaged because abuse was covered up and facilitated for so long.
After all, it was the church who states the charges are unfounded.
So many people could still believe that he got away with it. -

Another thought......if I was one of the falsely accused priests, of course I'd be upset with my accuser, but I'd also be upset with the Church and probably would have severed any relationship I had with the Vatican years ago.

Anyone remember the california daycare "investigation". Six people went to jail. On long terms. It was manufactured by a group of "psychologists" doing deep recall from the "victims". It was all a sham. Manufactured testimony suggested by the "therapists". There is a VERY good reason to be circumspect on allegations of sexual abuse where no physical evidence is provided and no independent investigation was conducted before individuals sought therapy 20 years later. The statements of most "victims" fall into the catagory of baseless with no physical evidence. So BOPOPE and his kind can accuse and ruin people who did nothing? I am not saying things did not happen. I am saying that the courts have the rules to decide, and baseless rumor here is just defamatory. -

It is a good thing to remember why we have a system of law. It goes back to the concept that landowners could not accept kings law(ie. what the king said is law) but required that the kings proclamation required independent investigation. Also a party aside from the king to hear the case and a set of persons not knowing the case to hear and proclaim guilt or innocence. This is what we know as law today. One individual is not allowed to proclaim guilt. This in fact today IS A CRIME. The claim MUST be followed by investigation. Too many claims over a thousand years lead to this process and it does work. So let the LAW work and stop pointless defamation BOPOPE.
