Cadillac Deval, get after him for the sales tax!!! This is typical do as I say not as I do Massachusetts politics! BTW, did you see where he was one of the most outspoken to refute the claims of border city merchants that people will go over the border to avoid the tax? You can't make this stuff up!

    Good guess, he did.

Dems who passed it said the claim people would go to NH for booze and smokes was ridiculous.

    Really now...

It's not so much that he bought the booze, it's that he makes excuses (my wife took to long in the bathroom). He wants to save a couple of dollars on taxes that's fine, just don't get upset when us common folk do the same thing.

its no big deal, its just funny.

Especially since it was these people telling us the prospect of Mass buyers going over the border to get booze and smokes was unfounded.  What was he, a mile from a Mass packie?

"On Wednesday afternoon, 16 of 33 cars parked outside the northbound state liquor store on Interstate 95 had Massachusetts license plates".

And some people wonder why I'm always muttering, "It ain't on the level" and "It all depends on whose ox is getting gored."

    Is this really a story?

We've been jumping the border for booze and smokes since before we were of legal age.  (Yep, NH clerks were pretty lenient back then, too.)  Never heard of the 'Stateline' convenience store?

And you voted to raise the sales tax and argued the increase wouldn't drive people over the border when? Get it now?

Its a funny story to me.  Less so for liquor store owners on the NH and RI borders

Sales tax, perhaps (though by proxy), but I never argued anything close to what you claim.

    Nice try.

Point being is that such significant purchases were nearly always made in NH when convenient.  To date, I have yet to see a liquor store go out of business in my local border towns.

I'll be heading to Maine tomorrow. I'll wait to buy booze in NH. Why? It's cheaper and convenient.
I've been doing that for years.

Sometimes it's not rocket science or politics.

Now its cheaper, ergo, more convenient.

Of course, now you can get arrested.  Wonder why they threw that little gem in the law?

Oh, and I'm sure the Mass DOR trying to force out of state businesses to collect taxes for Mass was just a coincidence.  Of course, the only people who laughed harder than Governor Lynch was the Massachusetts Court!

    Bwa hahahaha ha!

Dude, these "border wars" have been going on for quite some time, dating back to the uproar over the "bottle bill".  Remember that?

NH has always had cheaper booze because they have a state-owned monopoly.  Socialism/marxism at its finest.

And as for Mass. folks going over the border to buy it?  The free market at its finest.  I'm convinced the only way that Mass. can retaliate is to legalize medical marijuana dispensaries.  I'll give the State House 5 years to "git 'er done", as my Cow Hampshire brethren like to say....

The hypocrisy in what?  Shopping where I want to??  Again, we've been going over the border for decades, so what's the big deal?

Weren't you the one exhorting Mass. folks one and all to patronize your state-subsidized, tax free paradise once the Mass. sales tax increase went into effect??
